I was considering an SE at some point, but I already have a ton of 6s 5000 packs, but would rule this heli out if I had to go out and buy yet more batteries.

BTW, I thought I remember reading about some guys running 12s/5000 on their stretched L600's.

Thanks

MrMel is running 12s 5000 in his stretched 600 and it fits. He said he prefers the extra weight feel

Heechee,

The radio system is powered by the Jive internal BEC only, using both master and slave cables, the BEC voltage set at the default 5.6 Volts, with 8717's on cyclic and 8900G on the tail.

We have been running this configuration since October of last year, and it has been 100% reliable. It is the same configuration Kyle will be flying at the XFC and 3D Masters, so we're pretty confident of it.

helicraze,

Yep, we're gonna keep it (-:

Today we went flying and specifically set time aside to "tweek" the V-Bar settings if any unfavorable characteristics surfaced, after having more time and experience with the machine. At the end of the day, (other than lowering pitch pump and total collective pitch range as mentioned earlier), Kyle said it flies to his liking using the exact same settings as his standard Logo 600's. Not what we expected...but good none the less.

Now in the interest of being fair, I will admit Kyle is not exactly flying Version 4.0 anymore. I cannot be specific of course at this time, but you didn't think Ralf, Uli and the boys were sitting back taking it easy did you . Might have something to do with it.

I remember last new year Uli posted in German on the vstabi forum about how there is alot of competition etc coming for flybarless systems, he basically said that they will not rest until it is perfect!

For myself, I cannot really imagine it being much better? V3 i was disapointed, perhaps due to the Official lack of documentation and flight characteristics.
V4 hit the nail on the head. Flies lovely on any heli.

Thanks for an in depth review and spank that logo 600SE!

Mikado already made their announcements including VBar stuff in the news, more in-depth and really interesting things will not be said before release, as always...

That 5020-450 must be pretty doggy on 10s though no ?

NTM,

Below are two excerpts from a long post I made earlier in this thread:

"Over a two day period we tried 13, 14 and 15 tooth pinions, collective pitch ranges between +/- 10 to 14 degrees, and head speeds 1800, 1900 and 2000."

"Rather than a flight-by-flight report (take forever…this is long enough already), here’s the deal: the “sweet spot” for Kyle with the set-up was on a 14 tooth pinion, 11.5 degrees collective pitch @ 1900 head speed. 14 degrees of collective pitch is too much for the power system to reasonably maintain its head speed. Using a head tack and observing the heli during 3D maneuvers, we lowered the pitch to 12 degrees, then 11 degrees, and then settled on 11.5 degrees as the threshold between the most pitch you can use and still have the head speed stay reasonable constant through tough 3D maneuvers. The heli is very capable for sure with these numbers."

That being said, I would not say the 5020-450 on 10S is doggy at all, based on the fact it only has to haul around a 9 1/2 pound "700 class" heli.

Now, put the motor on a 11.5 - 12 pound T-Rex 700 electric conversion so popular these days, running on 10S, at the higher head speeds and collective pitch ranges performance mongers are addicted to these days, and it would by comparison be "doggy" (-:

Great read, glad to hear of even more improvements for vbar, thought it was good how it was, im assuming your also referring to the possible collective control vbar could have in the future, collective compensation and control or some sort...

I was thinking about going with a Pyro 700-45 (450KV) on 12s 4000mAh with 11T pinion. Do you think the main gear will strip with such a small pinion?

I ran the 450KV pyro motor in my Logo 600 stretch with 11T no problem at all. It was a good strong cool setup

Dave,

Did you have to modify the frame to get the 5020-450 to fit?

Thanks

You need the 30mm motor mount and a small amount of material must be removed from the side of the frame in a tiny area. 30 seconds with a small file.

The motor will seem like it doesn't fit in the top, but just give it a push, the frames will flex the extra mm to allow it to drop right in.

What NTM said.

To expand a little, the motor doesn't go in very easy if you try and get it between the frames at the top, by trying to slide it vertically straight down between the frames. If you angle it about 45 degrees (top of the motor forward) and pass the motor through the top of the frames at that angle, and then rotate it vertically to drop it the rest of the way down to the motor mount, things go much smoother.

Our motor clears the top of the frames with room to spare, and just barely kissed the frames at the bottom just above the motor mount. So slight as a matter of fact, we just let it "wear-in" so to speak, and never did any filing .
