Nice looking frame. The only thing I notice it it looks like it lacks support for the top of the main shaft.

I beleive the Servo support is bolted to the Motor mount which creates a deck across the top of the frame. This servo support most likely houses the top bearing for main shaft support.

I did not mean to imply that there was not a top bearing. There just is no guset support to what is holding the top bearing from the looks of it. I am sure it is fine I would just like to see a few more pics from different angles

Basically it's like driving a convertible, less support for more weight

I'm Curious. Why change the 600 rotor head fireup?

Seems excellant as is.

Your efforts in designing and making your frame are to be complimented. You have a lot of work there.

I built this Heli mainly as a learning process. This was my first heli design and build. So, to see it fly and knowing it's not just am exact "clone", it is more exciting to me. Also, because I allready have a Trex600, I didn't want another one that flies the same....

I went with this head design because it has the least amount of parts to make, (at first thought anyway). And with the Moving Flybar Head, there is no washout and extra linkage, so there's less play from swash plate to the blades.

Here is my CAD design. The only thing left to make is the skids and canopy. I'm not sure if I'm going to make the canopy, the the Trex canopy fits just fine right now.

Well, looks as though you have a whole new helicopter there fireup. Once you do the skids and canopy, you no longer have a T Rex. Except for the tail, of course.

I do like the top motor mount. That changes the CG's in a good way, and also gets it in a better position for cooler running. You would think so anyway.

Congrats on your effort there. Looks interesting.

I use the JR DS3421, (metal gear version), on all my logo's and prefer the performance over the 9650. I have never stripped a gear, and have seen no slop develop over a year's time.

IMHO this would be the premeir sevo for this frame, If it fits. Can't see why it wouldn't

Might be another good alternative for your new frame Charley... :glasses2:

Do you not find the servo slow at 0.18s?

Thank you for your input gordohigh since the first picture a few things have changed with this frame. An option to use different mini / sub sized servos is one of them.

Please anyone else have any input I make these frames as a personal Hobby and would enjoy having this frame as a shared masterpiece

So..... I would like to consider anyones thoughts towards design in this frame, bare in mind please keep it within the spectrum of its initial design purpose "lighter weight over stock"

Maybe when its done we can Call it the "Heli Freak Edition"

Thickness is going to be 1.7mm in G-10 and 1.65mm in CF

Well I guess I will leak out my plans

Many of you saw the 8S test vid I posted a few days ago? Well those were FlightPower 8S 3700 packs.

Now Charlie's frame drops a lot of weight so imagine if you will going to Flightpower 4350 packs now? Based on my calulations weight will be still under a stock Trex600 6S with these but now flight time will be up! I am thinking maybe 7 minutes possibly of hard 3D if not for sure 6!

I will also be trying 8S 4900 as well.

Beginning of the year is going to be FUN!

Bob

Got the kit the other day. Everything fits perfectly. This is the prototype and the final run should be even better with some nice improvements. The frames are not however PnP. No big deal, Charlie includes everything in the kit you will need to put it together. Don't whine, you put the heli together, so you can snap in some blind nuts. If you don't know what these are, you will after Finless does his build videos on it.

You will have to trim the canopy for a Neu 1515, 1512, and the Zpower 50.

The zpower motor sits flush with the top of the canopy, the neu1515 sticks out, and the 1512 is flush excet for wires.

I still need to clean some wiring up and check radio setup. I may be able to get a flight in today.

I will post all up weights, and photos later. I think you guys will like this kit a lot !
