Lynx Y bracket - any impressions?
Cracked mine, looking for replacement - found Lynx's LX1185-A upgrade. On the surface, a few extra dollars seems worth it. Any hidden problems with it?

This is all speculation, but I really wonder why they went with a smaller bearing.
The stock bearing is already pretty small and is very easy to kill, why go with an even smaller weaker bearing

Unless... if I remember correctly, that specific size was impossible to get other than from MSH channels. Maybe the one Lynx used is more common? What size is it?

The MSH size is 6.5mm, which is pretty hard to get. Pretty sure you can now buy the bearings seperately though, so not such a big deal.

Unfortunately this Lynx CNC "Y" support is no longer available. Indeed an odd size for the MSH support bearing too. I'll have to go with stock plastic arm. Wish I could get a ceramic hybrid bearing for it. The reality is that this arm is not designed to assist in cantilever support for the pinion and motor anyway. It is only used to keep the floating pinion on the shaft. Also it's used to provide in-between frame support as the idler pulley going into the drive end creates some significant separation forces with the belt tension. The key is to setup belt tension without the bracket and then lock everything down and then put on the wye support so there is no radial load on it.
Regarding stock parts availability, the crucial high-breakage parts now not in stock are the side frames, and the main frame plastic bits. Losing my mini in a lake has been a real challenge for a rebuild. I have many spare parts, but I never prepared for a total loss. Even in a crash there's always something left to use over. Will show pics of the new build soon . I know, I know, I should move on to the 380, but the Mini is just so darn awesome, its worth the work. BTW, if anybody does have a Lynx LX1185 to sell me, please PM. Last edited by FNFAL; 10-10-2018 at 10:32 AM.. |

Sorry to hear about the watery grave
One thing that I have meant to do but never got around to is to modify the Y-bracket (either Lynx or original) to remove the "lip" that hold the top of the bearing. I could then loctite in a deeper bearing - imho it is the small depth of the bearing that causes it's demise (balls will need to be smaller) |

Hi Mike, certainly worth a go IMHO2. Regarding watery grave, I can't tell you how many hours I've been trawling the depths with rod/reel to snag that puppy. Someday in a 100 years they'll drain that lake and they'll find an antique heli at the bottom. Man was that thing bling'd to death!

This was about 5 years ago and I kept going back every so often and trying another approach. It was so well wedged in there it's not going any where (I even went over one day when we had a 80mph storm in case it had come down - nope, still up there) |

11 months later... finally, I scored quite possibly the last Lynx Y-bracket on the planet for sale in Switzerland. Thanks to Modeltec - great service! Hopefully someday these might be made production again somewhere.
