Default Crown and Bevel Gear

KDS can produce this and why Mr. Kasama can't. The gears are way bigger too than mod 1 (I guess it's mod 2). I hope Mr. Kasama see this.

This is the prototype, don't worry, it's coming, but for now you have to mesh perfectly, lubricate and soften your tail stops on the fbl unit.

@Ben: did you run those gears on you srimok and can tell us if all the waiting is worth it?

Should be smoother quieter and more rugged!?

From one srimok lover from germany.

P.S.: if it takes longer where can i get the KDS gears?? :-) just curious ;-)

It was all that, but I didn't get one yet. It was tested by Rune Nessen at the Kasama factory. A batch have been ordered from China as Kasama doesn't have equipment to do a helical cut gear. Frustrating but lube up, they will last a bit longer

@Ben: What kind of lube do you use? Dryfluid maybe?

We use Omega 58 on the main & crown then Omega 71 in the tail gearbox.

Omega 71 is the original tail gearbox grease you get with a kit.

http://www.kasama.co.uk/catalogsearch/result/?q=grease both are here

If this is the same size (diameter & thicknes) then it still a modular 1 which is the same as the existing one. Well actually a little bit longer because it's spiral, but I think there will be no difference in strength. Could you tell us the gear size (teeth)?

There was talk of a helical main, but the original is rock solid, I've not heard any news on it since.

No it is totally different, less teeth, helical and metal.

We have been doing some experimentation this week with crowns/blades/tails.

We have limited the travel of the tail blades to about 20 degrees on a 750 equipped Faifa and given it a good hammering.
The results are very good, the pirouette rate is unaffected as that is controlled by the FBL unit, at full throw you get almost 40 degrees which seems massive overkill.

We don't know if anyone has tried this before but it certainly is looking good after initial tests. FBL setups always say set full travel, but you don't want so much that the tail blades stall and we suspect this has been happening.

Feel free to trial it and let us know your thoughts.

I thought that the whole drive train was getting a helical overhaul.

The "Speed" Faifa parts that were hinted at seemed to be a helical main gear, pinion (obviously) metal helical crown and tail drive gear, and split frames. Was I mistaken?

We did talk about it when we spoke about Crown gears.

I haven't seen one. But that doesn't mean it isn't coming. He keeps his cards close to his chest. I have mentioned I think it is a good idea. I'll ask again and see if he is forthcoming with shying.

I am sure everyone here would snap up a full helical set in a heartbeat.

I would love to have a quiet, stronger drivetrain on an already impressive helicopter. I have not had any issues with crown gears stripping, but I do not fly very hard. Still, the peace of mind is welcome... as is the lower decibel level of a helical versus straight cut drive system.

...and while I'm making up a wish list, I'd like to see that fancy new linear drive servo system from the Henseleit TDS make its way to the FAIFA.

I'm afraid will get a tail blow out. I guess we need to do an inverted hurricane with that set up and see if the tail blows out.

I'm confident it won't blowout, try 3/4 pitch 1st, see how you feel, and remember altitude is your friend

I've just measured the Dune with the digital pitch gauge, 38 and 42 degrees at full throw.

How well did it fit? I've been looking at it but not tried it.

Did you have to drill the gear or hub? Did you have to move the pinion block for tail?

I machined a new component and cut/modified the crown gear to fit.
