Talking Micro Chinook LED Blades Project!!

I will be starting an experiment with LED lights mounted on the blades of my Syma S026G CH-47! Any suggestions on what led's and watch batteries I should use?

Not sure what to tell you as far as watch batteries. The smaller the better I guess.

Why not something like this:

As for leds, red, yellow or orange will be easier on the batteries than other colors. Some small 0805 or 1210 size SMD leds should be plenty small enough.

It will be interesting to see how this works on such tiny blades. If you need any more links for things like shrink wrap or tiny switches let me know.

Wow, that is crazy battery! I didn't know they made such small batteries! Thanks for that being able to re charge will be much cheaper than buying so many watch batteries.

Do you know if any very small light switches? if not i can just unplug them haha

Sure. Check out either mouser or digikey. They have SMD leds and resistors too.

http://www.digikey.com/product-detail/en/AYZ0103AGRLC/401-2014-1-ND/1640123

http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/CK-Components/AYZ0103AGRLC/?qs=%2fha2pyFaduhUVFXQv%252bpHh3QVoPoZlq1ttrpEBlZ8 jmGRTlHUtXOZGw%3d%3d

Btw that is not the correct switch pictured on the mouser site. Both links are for the switch pictured on the digikey page.

Also, when you shop for SMD leds, be sure to check out the data sheet. Some of those leds have multiple positive and negative connections on the underside making them difficult to solder.

So do you think I should use copper tape and flat mount LEDs? I was thinking extremely small gauge wire with black tape haha that way it's easy on and off. what would you suggest, and what kind of LEDs are made for that?

Really hard to say. I cant tell from the pics if those are 3mm or 5mm leds. And with the slow rotor speeds of an indoor coaxial it might not be an issue.

Have you seen the small smd leds? They are every bit as bright as the through hole mount variety like the ones you linked. And they have a wide viewing angle. Usually 120 degrees or so.

As for the thin copper strand or copper tape, either one will work.

Yeah, those are pretty fancy LEDs, I would just be concerned about soldering them,
I'm not that great at it haha.

If I did use the hole mount, I would have it like this

like my art? hahaha

I used this idea and did blades for my 130X. Took some trial and error but got it done. I found it better to use wire on the blades instead of the copper tape they flex and break the tape. The wire makes the blades stiffer and survives crashes better.
