Default assembly help

My recently rebuilt E7 went it yesterday after i lost the tail. Luckily crash wasnt bad, i was able to get it close to level and kill the throttle. It just cost me a set of main blades, a link, and some tail transmission parts.

My pin that holds the 18t bevel gear onto the spurs gear shaft came out. has anyone experienced this, and are you guys gluing the pin in or doing anything besides pressing it in to ensure it doesnt come out?

Hi B.Ewing,

Sorry to hear about your E7 going down, hopefully you can get her fixed and back in the air quickly.

The pin that secures the 18T bevel gear to the output shaft should have small M3 set screw securing it through a threaded portion of the output shaft where the gear is located. If the pin is missing or hasn't been secured down fully the centrifugal forces will eventually allow the pin to work free.

Hope this helps,
Cheers,
Ross

See these diagrams from manual. There is a set screw holding both the front bevel gear pin and the rear

These are from E5 but they are the same on the E7

It's happened again. Lost the tail, same pin is gone. I don't know how, I definitely paid attention to the set screw this time around. This model went crash free for 1.5 years now 3 this summer

Take the pin out. Run the set screw down until you can see it through the pin hole. Make sure there isn't any metal slag or debris in the hole.

Chris is correct in making sure the thread are is clear. I run a pipe cleaner in all screw holes with acetone to get the cutting oil out of the threads. Those pins are really hard and the set screws do not tend to hold hard smooth pins over time. I sand the center of the pin with a dremel sandpaper disc, assemble and insert the pin, put a small drop of RED loctite in the screw hole and cinch down the set screw. The loctite is forced a head of the set screw. You will be surprised how well the RED stuff holds when you put it where it does't belong. Can't get it apart, well Tail output shaft $13.00, tail bevel gear $13.00 for a 2 pack, pin $2.00, CRASH $200.00 +, your choice.

Hope you get this problem solved, these machines are such fun to fly. Don S.

Some people are totally against red locktite but if you don't want your bird to come apart in the air it is the only way to go and if you need to get it apart later just use your soldering iron and touch the screw for a few seconds and it should come right out.

Although I've always been aware of the importance and significance of the set screw, I've never thought much about it after the initial build because after 4 Synergy builds (on my 5th now) and 1000+ flights, I've never had a single problem with the pins getting thrown. But this thread is inspiration to go back and check the security and integrity of the set screws on each of my Synergy models. Thanks for posting, and good luck on getting it sorted out and back in the air.
