4s questions
Hi all,
I'm just deciding between a 450 pro and a mini protos and find the idea of 4s appealing. I've seen a couple of threads about the subject but no one really gives a definitive answer. Does the mini protos work well on 4s out of the box? What size batteries does everyone use? How's the balance and fit? Is the esc easily setup to give an accurate governed headspeed? I'll be buying batteries so it doesn't matter whether it's 3 or 4 cell I'm ordering. Is it really worth it or shall I just stick to the normal 3 cell 2200 mah packs? Is the mini really worth the extra expense over a pro? I'm not as bothered about the initial outlay it's the parts cost that's a bit off putting when the inevitable happens. Lots of questions but any help is appreciated. Cheers, Craig. |

Mini Protos.
I would buy the Protos. I have owned a T-rex 450 and had trouble keeping the tt gears in it just like the Rave 450. I did do a conversion on a 450 pro to a belt drive but did not get the chance to fly it. I just bought the bare bones kit, and are putting my own electronics in it. As for the electronics going to a 4s is not going to be a problem. the Scorpion HK-2221-12 V2 (2580 KV) has the same kv as the MSH Protos stock motor. Please some one correct me if im wrong but i think that the Protos in designed around a 4s. i also like the option that the kit has a FBH and a FBLH as an option. (Here is a video of the Protos on 4s) i hope i have answered the questions. JASON671 is doing testing with 3s right now with different pinions he would be a great person to ask.

Thanks for the reply. I've seen the vid, it's what prompted my interest. I know that Heli is running 2200mah packs but that seems quite a bit heavier, so I didn't know how it would handle the extra weight and how it would affect the balance. there certainly doesn't appear to be any problems in the vid, but unfortunately I can't fly like that so I was trying to get an average joes point of view.
I'll keep an eye out for jason's tests. Cheers |

Would you go 2200mah with a weight of 257g or 1800mah with a weight of 201g?
What flight time could I expect on a 1800mah pack running a 14t pinion and a decent headspeed? Cheers Craig. |

FYI 3s 2200mah 45c tp pack is 198 grams, given noted cog of this heli 220+ is going to be a challenge to obtain optimum cog, can be done but just IMO 450s fly better as light as possible and with 3s pack at given weight the mini fbl is allready over 850 grams as is getting towards 900 and up is no where's near as nimble feeling in tight stuff.

3s is the way to go. more so if you plan to go FBL. CG is spot on with 3s and more than enough power.
