The 10th is the holy roller that will keep it all together nicely.

Good luck with the test flight, dont forget to treat us a video

My Gaui flights are prosponed for now, waiting for a new gyro to arrive and am having fun with a 250.
Problem is my home customs is intercepting and holding packages for a yet to be determined time period. I hope the gyro slips past it. i can do without the hyjacked spare parts and sim cable for now.

Default OWB Failure

I saw some info on the net about owb's.
It stated that the owb has to have some play to center itself when locking.
The Gaui setup would allow this apart from side loading from the mesh.
A little up and down will help .01-.02mm. The blocks on a CF frame should be tightened also allowing this small amount of up & down float otherwise it just rubs against the shim washers, a small amount of lube on the shim washers helps.
I found the spacer supplied with the OWB shaft can have small variation in thickness, different spacers can affect up & down play on the 1st gear hub also affecting the OWB shaft vertical play. 0.02c

no luck

i do have a small amount of up and down play on the owb
the vxb owb is holding up but for how long?

i have tore down and rebuilt my frame 3 times
i even took them to work and used a new dry dye penatrate to find
any cracks on the frame, none it is flight worthy
after taking measurements on a cmm and calculating the location of the blocks
on solid works at my job,

the bottom line is the bearing blocks can move up and down, with in the hole size in the frame and the major diameter of the threads

i thought about tightening the screws down
but there is a limit on the torque that can be applied due to the threads in the aluminum bearing blocks, too much will simply pull the threads out.

pinning will also not work as i need the correct location for the blocks
if i pin them wrong then i am stuck with them in that location
so do i just buy new fram sides or just move on?

it is something i have been thinking about , i am not one to give up
but after seeing how my local hobby shop has not helped me at
all with a kit i bought there i dont think it will be wise to keep this heli
what if i have another issue???
stuck in the same boat again?

i could of easliy bought online and got it cheaper, but i was promised tech support
at the time of the purchase, now that i see how it really is, i will buy online
from now on, unless im in a bind,,, period

My bearing blocks don't move at all - I'm sure that's where your problems are coming from. Have you priced out how much new side frames would cost ? Do you know why / how the bearing blocks have come loose in the frames ?

Cheers,
Mike.

I compared to a new frame at the store
Not much diffrent, I was told the holes in carbon do vary.

Some come out good, some bad

Wow fusions, sorry to hear about all your troubles and frustrations with your Hurri. I have never had a bearing issue with my plastic framed 425 or my 550. I recently maidened my HeadHunter framed Hurri running 500mm blades and medium length boom and it flew great.

Not sure when Scott will have all the metal parts for more HH frames, but, those frames seem to solve all of the problems that people have with the stock frames.

The other OWB in an rcbearings.com bearing and has 9 rollers compared to the VXB's 10 rollers. It's looks different internally to the VXB bearing but appears to be well made, and feels good on the OWB shaft. I've also just ordered another VXB bearing to keep as a spare, as it's working well in the 425.

BTW, I asked VXB what lubricant to use on the OWB and they said that any standard bearing grease will be fine. Currently I'm running mine dry, which I don't like doing.

I wouldn't oil them to much, the only time they are free wheeling is when you are spooling down or practicing autos, which isn't very much,so you wouldn't think they'd need much lube, just what they come with.

The VXB OWB arrives dry, unlike the Gaui kit OWB.

OUCH, I was flying some really big, REALLY fast circuits with my 550, loading up the heli fairly well with really high G turns, fast tictocs, hard stops, etc.... I got about 2-3 minutes into the flight and then this happened. It caused the 20t gear to spin free from the OWB itself which saved the OWB. I was able to auto in fine. I have been flying the snot out of this thing lately, and the other day had the top bearing on the OWB shaft disintegrate. Actually I had been hearing a squeaking sound for the last 4-5 flights but thought it was gear chatter from the CC Gov (I shoulda done my routing maintenance i know...I could have prevented this

click for a better look

I had another OWB where the gear was fine, but the OWB inside was melted so chucked it in my vise and used the good OWB to press out the bad OWB, effectively taking its place comfortably inside the gear. A little of the green sleeve retainer on the way in and im back in business.

Default one way still is problem

My plastic 425 has a very few flights since I am not an expierinenced pilot yet. The first 19T OWB started to troubles in less then 10 flights. I change with a 20T and I had no problem for a few flights but did not fly the heli for a period.
Now the problem is that the OWB slips during startup but not always.
I changed also the original 19T OWB bearing with the VXB but the problem is still valid. I use only the one washer in the bottom and I haven't overtight the bolts of the frame around the OWB as I have read in previous posts. Any suggestions PLEASE

...Try a drop of Tri-flow oil in the bearing
Did you change the shaft and bearing at the same time? you might pull it out and use some scotch brite on it and re try it...I have had no trouble since I changed all mine to 20T OWB's(and new shafts)

I thought that the shaft is no issue. I always put some drops of triflow, thought I think there should be a special OWB grease. I will try with scotch sponge and a new shaft.

How do I tell if the OWB is going bad? Can I check this by turning the head with the power off or something?

When the OWB starts to go bad, you will see and hear the motor spin and temporarily not "Catch" when spooling up. You can hold the main gear while trying to turn the head back and forth and it catch immediatly in one direction.
