Default Urukay 3-Blade 2x the price?

How important is 3-blade? HeliDirect selling 2-blade Urukay for 899 $ (Ikon2 included!). Competition model (3-blade) 1640 $.

SAB ad for "Competition" 3-blade shows Graber holding a 2-blade, plus 2015 F3C championship vids show Graber flying 2-blade. Should I grab a 2nd 2-blade at 899 $ or is there a lot I don't know, re 3-blade benefits?
Thanks

Wow. I don't own a goblin but the three blade upgrade kit I just bought for another was $50.
I could see it costing more because of the SAB quality but almost double ?

The Urukay 2 blade at Helidirect is the first version Urukay. Sab also made the first version Urukay in a 3 blade head and tail. Higher price for the 3 blade first version. Heli direct dropped the price from $1250.00 down to $900.00 for the 2 blade version. Most likely a clearance sale.

The $1600.00 3 blade Urukay is the latest competition version Sab came out with. Higher price for 3 blade and some upgrades from the first version.

Good price for 2 blade version.

I purchased a 3 blade Urukay just for something different not for any particular flight characteristic.

Its an awesome machine and I love the way it flys however if I ever bites the dirt (hope not ) I will be putting it back together as a 2 blade. The 2 blade runs 750mm blades where the 3 blade runs 725mm blades in case you missed that detail.

To me, sounds like you have a bargain to be had...

Get the 2 blade. Chances are you wont like replacing 3 blades every time you crash.

Pro; seems like more pop/collective control at low head speeds which everyone likes

Con; Added weight, flight times will be shorter.

I'm fascinated by tri heads but upon looking them up the cost to benefit ratio is purely cosmetic at this point

Get the 2 blade. I have it and it is awesome. HD price is a smoking deal especially with the iKon2 included. I would highly recommend buying it!

Default Competition

Your comparing the 2blade vs the 3blade competition. The 3blade competition has an entirely different canopy than the 2 blade. I believe the drive train and position of electronics is a little different as well.

If your just sport flying then go 2 blade, if your thinking about presentation in F3C then maybe go competition.

Default HeliDirect deal

OK--bought red Urukay with free Ikon2 included (have blue with Vbar).
On the 2nd build, may get suggestions for being more economical--
Maybe Hobbying 160/Scorpion or other motor/Servo suggestions ?
May leave HW160 low-mounted if room (upper ESC tray is extra).
Thanks for suggestions--may progress to 3-blade later, if it tends to hover better at low RPM, etc (don't need hard 3D).

It really depends on what you want to do with this heli. If it is for F3C, there is no definite answer. At the F3C heli NATS this year, both 2 and 3 blade helis were represented but there were more 2-bladed than 3-bladed, including when looking only at the Urukay fleet.

For the hovering maneuvers, I noticed I was at a disadvantage with my 3-bladed head when the wind was gusting (more drag). It comes down to personal preference and I feel the 3-bladed head gives me more stability for the big air maneuvers.

If you mostly fly 3D, I found the 2-blade head better (rolls faster). By the way, for 3D, I would pick something else than the Urukay.

You have a nice configuration on your Urukay. If I had to decide in a similar situation, I would have made the same choice: buying the 2 bladed regular version for half the price of the 3-bladed comp version...
