Default Align motor in Goblin 700? Curious

I have a G700 purchased used with a nice Scorpion motor included which works fine. HKIII-4035-500KV. It's just that it gets HOT and I don't like the whole oiling thing with Scorpions. It seems to me that this motor is hard on the batteries and I get low flight times. I know most of you swear by these motors which is fine.

I have a spare Align BL750MX 530KV motor. Just curious if I have a good option to swap this motor into the G700. It came out of a Trex 700 and normally just got warm not too hot in that heli, BUT I was running lower headspeeds than is "normal" for a Goblin

Thank you.

Scorpions really do get hot and certainly have a reputation for it too.

Lets not forget just how hard you fly the heli and what headspeed you ask of it.

Any motor will get hot should you hammer it hard enough.

If you have the motor handy then of course its worth installing and trying.

Its not a big job so worth a try.

Never hurts to try.

I'm running a 4225-610kv in my Goblin with 660mm blades. I've temped 165 degrees F at the motor copper internally. which is too hot to hold for 5 seconds.

I think i've read they are rated for 200-300C? That's really hot.

I'd be surprised if you were disappointed with the 750MX, provided that your machine is properly geared for it.

Align 520kv 700MX in a G700 here. Cyclone 715 blades for big air, light 3D and with a bit of sloppy smack if you can call it that. Bought the base machine back in 2012 and have made a few changes here and there with parts from the newer models.

I have been totally satisfied with the 700MX over the years and still am. Plenty of torque, light weight and not too hard on the 5000mah batteries. Peeps were almost giving these away when the 750, 800 and 850 motors appeared. Apparently the copper windings are a bit light weight but no issues here. Temperature after flying varies from warm to hot, as in hot enough to touch for a few seconds. Haven't bothered getting the temp gun out.

Scorpions do run a little hotter. But the motor you listed will run really hot i'd imagine on a 700.

http://www.scorpionsystem.com/catalo...KIII_4035_500/

Thats a pretty small stator for a 700 in today's terms. Cont power and peak power is listed at 3500/4600 respectively. If you're doing anything beyond sport and soft/mild 3D, you're going to be stressing that motor. For harder flying, higher headspeeds/ptich, you're going to be pushing that motor to the limit at all times. What it will do then is request maximum power from the ESC, which will in turn push the amps up and abuse the packs as well - so the whole system will run hot.

Some people have the misconception that if you're motor is running really hot, it must be really powerful which is incorrect. What that means is that the motor is typically underpowered for the given application.

For a 700, a 4525-520kv is the benchmark. 630's can run anything from 40XX-4230's so a 4035 is on the lower power end for a 630 even - much less a 700.

If you want a really cool running motor, check out Xnova's XTS series, but stick to a 4525 or bigger for a 700. For reference I run the 4530-525kv XTS version. Scorpion also sells 4530's as well if a little more torque is desired.

The newer Align motors are also great running motors. They are a little heavy but pull low amps and make big power. You should have no issues running one of those either. Might require a pinion change depending on Kv.

Thanks gents, I'm gonna try the Align motor. The Scorpion 4035 was what came with the G700 so I assumed it was up to the job, maybe I assume incorrectly

I do stress out the G700 pretty good even tho I'm far from a smack 3D pilot.
