Hitec 5000 gyro/ Logitech 3100 question

I have a Trex 250 with a Hitec HG5000 with a Logitech 3100G tail servo. Yesterday I flying it and out of the blue the tail spun right 90 degrees to the right. After setting it down, I noticed that the 3100 was extremely hot. I put it back on the bench and plugged it in rate mode (no heating). When I put it back in HH mode, the gyro got really hot again. Is there an incompatibility between these two. Or is there a setting that tells the 5000 not to overload the 3100G? I am completely stumped. Thanks, Dean

My guess is that it's a problem inherent in the 3100G and not the combo. If you check the nearby thread about intercompatability of the Hitec / Logictech gyro output, you'll find two of us had one burn up even with the Logictech gyro. I'm sticking with the Hitec 5083 now, since it doesn't seem to have this heat issue. If you need to replace it, that's what I'd recommend.

Since you don't really need to replace it right now, you could check that your linkage is very free moving and that your gyro's servo travel limits do not permit binding. That will reduce the load somewhat, but you'll still have "tennis racket effect" resistance if you're not using counter weights.
