Mother *#*)&^$ Battery!
Even though I have a dozen new 45c's currently in the mail I decided to go do a bit of flying with my 1/2 dead packs after work.
1st battery, I'm just about to bring it down when it freaks out, shoots across the sky, rolls, and "lands" on the roof of the local elementary school (I was at the base ball field). Hopefully they are nice when I go in tomorrow morning and ask if a janitor will sweep the roof of all balls and frisbees, and grab my heli. It was hard to walk away from it knowing that it's sitting up there still twitching its servos. |

I got one of my 130's stuck high up in a tree. It was caught by the skid, and the main blades were clear. It was upside down, so I kept giving it throttle and positive pitch to pull it loose. Of course you know what happened when it came loose. It shot toward the ground like a rocket. Unfortunately, I was directly underneath looking up. Nice blade cuts on my shoulder, but no damage to the 130! Live to fly again another day. Peroxide please!

Went in early this morning and the custodian was nice enoug to pull it down for me. I haven't put a battery in it yet to see how the electronics held up (it did dust snow last night), but the airframe looks like it bounced pretty well from the fall: nothing looks broken (love this little thing).

Good to hear! I would have asked the guy to throw it down nicely and tried to fly out of it lol

Let's not jump to too many conclusions. The custodian was very nice and I thanked HER for going above and beyond, lol. I think I might even write a thank you letter and drop it off for her. She could have just said, "No."

That was my original thought, but then I decided a gas coupon (from the station right across the street) would be even better. That's a good idea about baiting her to be more helpful, instead of more pissed off, next time. I don't do much flying there, I try to avoid places where my constitutional rights as a citizen are null-and-void, but it wouldn't be a bad investment to have future roof insurance when I do fly at the school.

Could you imagine if your Lipo was a little sketchy and started dischaging fast and the heli went up in flames, igniting the rubber roof or black tar compound and burned the place to the ground?
Talk about feeling bad for something so innocent. One second you are flying your helicopter in the school yard. Next thing you know, the school is a pile of smoldering ash. lol
