6S, FP 2500 Lite 18C, w/ 14 Pinion, 100-90-100
Got a chance to log a new FP green 2500 6s battery with stock motor, 14T.
I had the throttle curve 100-90-100, so that probably reduced the headspeed slightly. 100 straight would be more like previous flights I did with different 6s battery- more 2800. 6S, FP 2500 Lite 18C, w/ 14 Pinion, 100-90-100 Conclusions: It was a little too twitchy for my style, but very well behaved. Did about 4 backward flips, 2 forward flips, 2 rolling flips, 2 large loops, 1-2 fast rolls. I NEVER heard the motor bog at all, and the white align blades were tracking perfectly and sounding very smooth. I'm pleased the amps stayed reasonably low, even with 14 teeth. This heli seems more powerful than my 450 or 600 (both stock motors), so I'm not looking for any hotter 500 motors at this time. I think 2500-2600 is the perfect headspeed for me right now. The main reason for the 14t for me is to have decent flying also on a 5 s battery, at 100-100 curve. Last edited by rob-atl; 01-26-2008 at 09:52 PM.. |

6SA123 with 15 pinion and 463mm MAH blades
Hi Guys,
Great post. Looks like I need to get myself an eagletree. I'll try and stick my wattsup on my 500 when I get a chance. I'm using the stock motor, 15 pinion, Jazz 80 ESC (80% GOV), and 463mm blades on the stock boom. With that setup I'm getting 5.5 minutes of flight time with 2300rpms. With the added length of the blades I don't have to fly with 3K on the head for it to perform. Here's a quick (short) video demonstrating that it does work well with 6SA123 cells. I'm not a 3D pilot, but I may try and take some clips of the 6SA123 doing tick tocks and leapfrogs when I get a chance. It was really windy and I didn't have a camera man with me but I wanted to demonstrate that there is some power behind these cells.
Cheers, Paul |

I have about 15 flights on my scorpion 1600kv motor and really like it.Getting about 4 minutes of everything you can throw at it using flightpower 2500 6s packs.I am using stock esc and it is working great everything is running cool.I am also running 1900kv scorpion on my 2 500 and like it I am running 5s 3200 flightpower getting 4.10 minute flight using a jazz 55 with a external bec.

toms, how do you compare the performance of the 5S system vs the 6S system in full honesty?

They both have great power the 6s 1600kv machine flys lighter than the 5s 1900kv machine due to the battery weight. They only fly different because of the weight. I still can't say which one I like better have to get more flight's in on them.

I'm currently running stock esc and motor on 13T using 6s EVO 2170 and a 6s Evolite 2500. I'm interested in seeing more 6s reports on the Scorpion motors, trying real hard to resist the urge to order something. I would really like to get this 500 screaming power setup like my 600. I first flew it with MAH baldes and was less than impressed, the sounds at high pitch or fast rolls makes me thing they are not very efficient. Waiting on new Align blades any day now then may try the 14T for fun.
Checking the Scorpion webpage I see they have a new Scorpion HK3026-1000KV (12n8p) listed. My thinking to go with this motor would be the sub 200g weight (If it's not a typo) On 8s (2x4s) Evolite 2100 packs, batt weight would be 370-380g, and you could run a CC45HV ESC (59g) I would run the 16 or 15T pinion. Could be an ultimate light weight setup with similar flight time to a 6s 2500 setup (based on available watts from the packs, could be longer based on weight savings) May just have to try it out when the motor is available. Lee

Trex 500 Scorpion 1210 0n 8S Rocks!!
The title says it all. I have tried the 1900kv on 5S, 1400kv on 6s but the 1210 on 8S is it. My setup is Jazz 55, Scorpion 1210, 2 Flightpower Lites 2100mah 4S. These packs fit in the stock location just like the 6S pack. There is no modifications needed to get the canopy to fit. These packs weigh only 185g each. Here is the data I recorded.

Looks like a powerhouse joe.
Did you get any data with the Scorpion 1400 motor and 6S? If not, mine will be coming this week, so I'll do a compare of that and the stock align motor. I'm hoping for a noticeable gain thats not to hard on the packs. |

Just to warn you guys. Jazz 55 + scorpion 1400kv +8S = SMOKE! I smoked 2 new Jazz 55 ESC's within 20 seconds on spool up with the 1400kv. I have no Idea why. I know a guy using a CCHV45 with no problems.

Trextuning did test flights with that motor: Video and short blurb/summary. From their posting, it doesn't seem to offer anything more than the stock motor.

5S Protek
For you pilots that are sport and mild 3D this back is really nice. $130 for 8 plus of sport and 7:30 of sport/3D mix. Im mild 3D so I cannot say how this pack would work for hard 3D. These times are with 16T so if your just sport you could drop down to 15T and extend your time even more.
I lowered my tray to be flush with the bottom edge of the strap slot in the frame. This gave great clearance and canopy fit and also balances perfect with a full size servo on the tail like the 8900. If you go with the smaller tail servo you could just move your ESC to the side mount position. Mine is mounted under the tray. |

BTW, regarding the batteries, weigh them. I think you'll find them to be more like 200g each...manufacturer stretches it a bit. I know I'm splitting hairs but makes them look better than competative packs. They are good packs though. |

Hey All!! Has anyone tried the Hacker Brushless A40 10S 8 Pole? This seems like a kickass motor for the 500 and seems to have just about the same specs as the scorpion motor everyone loves so far. any thoughts?
