Default align T-rex 600 Nitro or Electric ?

Hey guys .
I 'm hopefully going for a T-rex 600 , but I don't know which one I should go for , Ele or Nitro ? What do you guys think ?

I've never built a heli , before but I've taken down my 450 couple times and then back together . So do you guys think i will be able to build one with the help of the manual of course and some build videos ?

Electric vs Nitro is a big debate that I don't think will ever end. In reality, it's really all about personal preference. I'm a big fan of electric. I don't like cleaning up the nitro mess once I'm finished flying. Plus I never have to worry about tuning my motor correctly. I just connect up the battery(s) and go fly.

However, batteries are expensive, and I have found that when you are looking for batteries that will work well on a large machine, you get what you pay for. Buy cheap, get cheap. Plus, most fields don't have power to recharge your batteries. Hence, quite often nitro guys can often get more flights in during a day of flying. I bring a deep cycle lead acid battery with me to the field and use that to recharge my helicopter batteries.

My choice in the end was electric, you'll need to weigh the advantages and disadvantages of both (there are more than what I put here) to see which one works best for you.

As for building the helicopter, most helicopter manufacturers have pretty decent instructions. Take your time, don't rush, and I suspect that you won't have many issues building it.

Hope this helps.

Look and see what your flying field offers. Not all fields allow Nitro and then your decision will be no brainer.

I had choices to go nitro, but decided to stick with electric, as it did not limit me to fly at particular area. I like hearing the blades with electric, but love the look of smoke trailing my heli with nitro.

Electric helis are a bit easier to setup and maintain. You don't have to worry about tuning issues as with a nitro.

An Align 600N is a dog when it comes to power unless it has a hopped up motor in it.

I ended up buying all electric with my setup (Trex-600, Trex-450, Exi-250). To me, nitro is way too loud!

Electric is the way to go! It has more power, easyer to mantain and setup. You have cheap batteries in electric, you have not so cheap fuel+engine parts. But the sound, aroma and smoke of the nitro are priceless .

1 gallon of 15% fuel is $30 + in Europe.
1 gallon = 12 flights = 96 minutes in the air (6 min/flight)
3 gallons = 90$ = 288 minutes in the air
2x 6S 3000 mAh batts = $90
200 cycles
1 cycle = 5-6 minutes of flight time
total = 1000-1200 minutes of flight time

3 gallons = 90$ = 288 minutes in the air

I think that electric is the way to go, just because of the above. Otherwise nitro IMO. I don't really care about the noise or the mess. Cheaper upfront cost, a little bit more docile, smell of nitro, the smoke trail, no need to grease anything, no high li-po costs, refuel and fly instead of having to charge the lipos, no ESC's ect.

Consider a few things...

Storage of your machine and supplies?... in your home or else where.

Precautions are needed for both nitro and electric, such as fire prevention, etc.

Support gear...
Though I make no claim to be any type of expert on nitro or gassers.
My guess is that you'll require at least some type of starter, fuel pump system, fuel, some type of battery box.
Tools
Work area

As for electrics...
A decent battery charging system for home and possibly field charging, which might include a portable generator

Also in many cases some type of computer support for adjustments to your machine.

In either case IMHO, you'll need to have a good working knowledge of which ever power type for maintenance, or at the very least LHS or fellow flyers for help and or advise.
