Gee. When Mikado announced the 14S powered Logo XXtreme 800, I remember some key-board experts immediately conclude that Mikado was making a huge mistake and the machine was doomed to fail...and one of the reasons was there weren't going to be any 7S packs available for it.
The machine hasn't even been released for sales yet, and I'd say based on the info presented in this thread, they were wrong. Sorry, I couldn't resist the dig Mikado has a history of innovating ahead of the industry, and the industry usually gets around to adapting and catching-up. No different in this case either. More ESC's and motors applicable to the 800 class of heli are also already starting to pop-up, and again, they are adapting to Mikado's lead. It's just possible the 800 class 3D machine is here to stay...ya think...maybe??? (-: Dave |

Well, that's a well earned reply Dave, after all this months of replying politely to those "key-board experts". Can't blame you for that, not at all.
After all, a 7S pack is nothing more than any other pack, throw in a different number of cells and the right balance connector, and you're done. No reasonable man should doubt that manufacturers would oppose to such a little extra cost. No extra cost in fact, if you think about it well. I even noticed that 10S and 12S stick packs are slowly becoming more popular again, that could also be related to the ever more popular 700 class. As you say, the industry will catch up sooner or later.

Im having a conversation with Gens Ace about 7S 5300/5000/5500mAh packs, good chances GA will start making them soon too. Weight will be typically for the GA, around 930 grams.

Anybody considering 16s instead of 14s? is there a pinion that would support that?

No, there' s no pinion that would allow 16S with the current 380kv motor...which isn't rated for 16S in the first place.

Having so many 6S packs for my current fleet, would it be a viable option to run 2 6S & a 2S in the XXtreme?

Only if the 2S pack you add to it is of equal age/condition and also output of performance ie: C Discharge... AND same MAH capacity, then it would work.

Oicu, not really...
As long as the 2S pack has similar or less internal resistance, and same or more capacity, there is no problem whatsoever with it. E.g. A brand new 12s 5000mAH (measured capacity) can be safely seried with old 2S 5500mAH (measured) if the per-cell internal resistance is not significantly worse in the 2S. |

"Acording to Dave Dahl 5000s are necessary"
Yea, I said that. But the context was for achieving reasonable flight times while flying 3D at higher head speeds with the XXtreme (which many will be doing). I've also said that for sport flying at lower head speeds, you can achieve much longer flights (as with any electric heli)...thus smaller capacity packs can be used with satisfaction in these situations. My XXtreme is set-up to fly "sport" @ 1500 head speeds (vs. the 1850 Kyle uses), and with 4400-4500mah packs (I have a few sets we got for the testing of the XXtreme last year), I get based on the way I fly (no 3D collective pumping, just forward flight type aerobatics), 9 minutes. The smaller packs with the 813mm blades makes for an "XXtremely" lightly disc loaded heli. If you can't autorotate an XXtreme 800 with 813mm blades using smaller 4400-4500 packs, then just go home (-: Dave |
