It depends on many factors. What are you looking for in terms of features? Is cost an issue?

Beastx is the biggest bang for the buck! IMO.

Cant go wrong there... though I do like the Self levelling feature of the SK720.

Cool, sounds like beastx is a good choice. I may go with it, sounds like it works fairly good with the protos. No need to buck up for the vbar if beastx is good. I love my 3gx mabe I'll go that route... Who knows!

I go to the rc depot in westminister for heli parts and talking to the guys that work there, most run beastx and recommend it as its good. plus now they have the Spektrum 7200BX FBL RX which is a beastx with a rx combined. there is a thread in the main forum about it.

I can't comment on V-bar yet (I have a full size blue one but am waiting for a new kit to try it) but I do love my protos with beastx currently. As a matter of fact I run beastx on my trex's 250, 700n, 700e, and my velocity 50 so you could say I'm a fan. I've flown 3g, 3gx (still using 3gx on my 600n) and have flown some other systems. Beastx is a breeze to setup once you get used to it and really does everything I want out of it. I'm sure the V-bar won't dissapoint but with the new 7200bx on the market, the price is absolutely worth trying it

I have a beastX on my mini P, a Skookum on the 500 and VBar on my 600 and another one waiting for my Goblin.

There are pros and cons with each but if you went with any of these 3 you will find them great.

Well...

Beastx is one of the cheapest and has the most fanboys, least features though.

Vbar and skookum have lots of great features and work awesome, but are expensive and skookum is just weird to type. Plus it's always going to have that red line under it unless you know how to add words to your dictionary, which most people don't know how to do.

3gx is a passionate one, you either love it or hate it. At least it has more features than the beastx for half the price used.

And then there's copterx/tarrot/alzrc/hk. Many of the features without the paypal sucking sound(read that as cheap). Clearly not the best unit, but then again, not as bad as the flybar it replaces.

Nice thing I like about the BX is it doesnt have all the extra features. Sometimes too much is a bad thing. I just wana fly. Set heli up, dial it in and go.

+1. I like just being able to turn the dial or hit the stick a couple of times to change cyclic response.

I just picked up a second hand sk720 that I was going to on my protos 500.

Im have having second thoughts now as I understand the protos tail vibrations can give you fits when setting up, so I am considering selling the 720 to go beastx.

Also I have beast on other 2 helis so it would be nice to have all the same.

The Skookum is no more susceptible to vibrations than the other FBL controllers, it is the accelerometers used for the Self Levelling function that are effected by vibration. If you don't use the self level function then only very strong vibration will freak it out, but it will also freak out the BeastX or Vbar.

I have found the stretch Protos in particular is prone to tail vibrations, especially around the tail box area. The good thing about the skookum is that it has a logging feature for vibrations so you can find, fix and measure vibration issues if you do have them (Vbar pro also has this).

My signature should be self explanatory. It works great on cyclic. I have a small bounce on CW piro stops I'm still trying to tune. Other than that, best $40 I ever spent on heli gear.

Old post from recurry has a detailed comparison.

Microbeast or skookum 720 post #9

I have the cheap Tarot ZYX on Blade 450 and like it a lot, but did not hesitate on Skookum for Protos.
