Strange...It looks like they might have discontinued the 654 and are selling the 658 in its place. Maybe look around, but this is the site where I got mine:

The servo you linked there is a "mini" class, and is too large for the 300X. The 654 is still listed, and shows in stock.

Ah! Thanks Chris...for some reason I couldn't find it last night....late night web searching isn't the best way to do it

Yeah, the Solar 654 can't be beat as a replacement for the stockies in my book. pretty much the same, just with metal gears...and a touch heavier (and actually tighten up the rear servo area, eliminating the need for the shimming that some are doing back there

I have pretty good results with Align DS415m. Not too expensive, all metal gear and fast. It's a perfect fit, real tight so it also takes care of flexing to some extent.

I use MKS DS95i for tail but I expect the Align DS425m to be good too. I had this one laying around so I figured why not just use it instead.

I use the Hyperion ds11-gcb on mine. It's about as fast as you can get in the price range (with decent reliability) and has worked very well on all the helis I've used it on, including the 300X. Also, I'm not a fan of metal gears on tail servos, as the slop that inevitably develops in them has a much more detrimental effect on tail performance than it does on the cyclic.

+1 on the DS11GCB. Loving that setup with the Spektrum H3000 servos on cyclic. No doubt the DS95i is a great tail servo and i love it on my 450X, but I thought it was a too heavy on the 300 to allow for proper balancing.

If you do want to change, I am personally running Spektrum H3000 cyclic servos on both my 450X and 300X and have been very happy with their performance and durability.
Did you also have to change the servo arms or do they work on the Spektrum H3000?

Yes you do as the servo splines are a little bigger on the H3000 servos than they are on the stock servos. I use one of the 4 way servo arms and lined it up and selected the proper hole using the stock servo arms as a reference. It also takes a little bit of doing to get the servo linkage ball into those arms as the screw on the ball is a bit bigger than the hole on the servo arm. I widened mine a bit using a small phillips head screwdriver and then they went in with a minor amount of force. If you would like to see pictures of my particular setup (not that it's necessarily perfect but at least flies well), let me know.

Managed to do a servo gear change without problems, so thanks again you experienced guys, I would have just gone out and purchased a new servo.

If I can do it then anyone can, didn’t even remove the zip ties on the wiring.
