Let us know when we can get it! Can I stack my old 3s1p 2200's on top of each other in the battery tray, until I work my way up to 6s? Hurriken |

Nice... looks like two HXT 5S2300s should fit side by side and on their sides.
My only concern / question is how well it will roll. Having the battery weight slung relatively low has to impact rolls a little? |

Looks nice, but how will the CP workout? The stock is balanced with the packs far forward, so when you put these under the main shaft, won´t that effect the CP?
Will the stock canopy fit this frame? Anyway, nice job! Will you produce it in G10? Price? I belive this frame will be great for all thoose people who want to upgrade to 580mm blades as well. And, alot lighter then TREX600 as well. |

Looks nice man.... It also looks like it will make find the CG for the PACK (S) a lot easier. I think once i get back to the states im gonna pick one up and upgrade to a 6s configuration.

me too, he should sell the prototype on ebay
I have never liked the battery tray on the stock Hurricane, this seems so nice. I hope there will be an option for smaller servos also (9650). . |

Hi Charlie,
Nice frame!!! But Looking carefuly I've got one question: Why did you make additional hole for boom support? It makes the rear part of the frame weaker, instead you can use existing lover or upper bolts just IMHO Last edited by Piranha; 10-05-2007 at 04:19 AM.. |

I agree. Also moving the boom support to the higher position would make it very easy to put in batteries without removing the canopy

Hey Charlie,
that's really a great design. As I'm user of A123 cells, I have one concern about the size of battery bay. You gave the size of 48mm tall x 49.5mm wide. The diameter of a A123 cell is 26mm, which means, if I make a pack of 4 cells beside each other, I need space of at least 52mm (55 to have space for placement, including shrink foil, fixing tape and balancing/power cords). Is there any chance to make the bay little bigger? Thanks, Karsten |

I'm in a very similar situation to Kalle660.
Charlie, I love the frame, but it doesn't do me much good in the battery deparment. I would like to maybe eventually end up with a 6s setup, and am really interested in trying A123. But for right now I have several matched sets of 2200's, and in measuring them last night there isn't enough room to stack on top of each other in 48mm, and on edge I would need 56mm, for my tallest packs. I know you can't please everyone in designing products. But I, like many (i think) would like to upgrade to a frame like this but have several hundred dollars already invested in 3s packs. It would be nice to be able to use my existing packs until I can afford to upgrade the power system. Could you maybe offer a spacer kit for the lower frames that would allow us the wide battery option? hurriken Quote:

Thanks guys for your comments makes designing these things more fun as my hobby>
As for opening the battery bay I will look into it. I think adding spacers is easy alternative at this point, I would like to consider making correct size parts but problem thus far is jigs and fixtures are made for the landing gear mount. So...... I will need to discuss with machine shop if it is possible to make changes without changing fixtures I do want this to be the one stop frame I will give my best to try and address all of your needs! But I do have to consider cost $$$ of these changes Piranha, I like your input so I made the change doing so allows removal of extra unneeded hardware thank for your input! Also below is a picture showing approximate dimensions you have in battery bay hope you can see them

yeah i'd like to put in A123's in double shotgun style packs too, but i figured i'd manage to do that myself as i have some cf sheet that i was planning to use along with some spacers and some small metric bolts to enlarge the battery tray to 55x55mm
charley if you can make these changes to the kit that would be even better but if they can't do it without modifying the jigs it shouldn't be that hard for most of us to modify it to suit phil |

Well just adding fuel to the A123 fire. I was hoping these frames would simplify A123 on the H550 but as they stand, they make it impossible and the stock plastic frame is better.
Shotgun packs need approx 30 x 56 x 210mm (for 6s, 280mm for 7s-8s) Slab packs need approx 30 x 70 x 164mm (for 6s, 191mm for 7s, 218m for 8s) Brick packs need approx 56 x 70 x 83 (for 6s, 110mm for 7s-8s, 137mm for 9s-10s Triangle packs need approx 56 x 52 x 140mm (for 6s, 210mm for 7-9s) Of these configurations, widening the lower frame will still only allow for shotgun packs at the most due to the height restriction of 39-48mm. If the lower frames could be made just a 5mm taller that would allow triangle packs to fit in the tallest front section which is currently 48 x 49.5 x 150mm. I think that would allow, for example, the existing 7s A123 packs to fit with the skinny "nose" pointing to the rear into the shorter area. I also think a design that excludes the use of a pair of popular 3s packs is disappointing. Consider these dimensions of some popular packs: Code:
----------- -- ---- -------------------- ----------- Brand #S mAh 1-pack 2-packs H W L H W ----------- -- ---- -------------------- ----------- MaxAmps 3 2100 24 34 98 48 34 FlightPower 3 2100 21 34 113 42 34 FlightPower 3 2170 24 36 112 48 36 Hextronic 3 2200 25 34 101 50 34 AirThunder 3 2200 30 37 113 60 37 FlightPower 3 2500 27 34 110 54 34 MaxAmps 3 3300 34 55 66 68 55 FlightPower 3 3300 19 44 142 38 44 ----------- -- ---- -------------------- ----------- FlightPower 4 1800 31 30 106 62 30 FlightPower 4 2100 27 44 123 54 44 FlightPower 4 2500 34 35 111 68 35 ----------- -- ---- -------------------- ----------- Polyquest 6 2500 46 44 121 FlightPower 6 3300 38 44 142 FlightPower 6 3700 42 44 142 ----------- -- ---- -------------------- ----------- If you are unable to accommodate these configurations I am sure the frame will still be popular, but not as an upgrade to most folks with existing investment in 3s packs (or 7s A123) and will really only be suited to those looking to move to (and fund) a single LiPo pack solution. Thanks for sharing your progress with us and considering our feedback.
