Default How tight is your one-way?

Mine feels tighter (harder to turn) than other heli's I've built over the years. Is it normal and will it loosen up after a few flights? I used ATF for lube just as Dave recommended.

With the pinion backed-off, even new, the main gear should spin free. The one-way should not give any resistance.

There are two shims under the main gear (one is 1mm, and the other is .5mm), and in a perfect situation with these installed, the main gear should have a little vertical play in it, which allows the gear to run free. Check that the vertical play is there. I've seen situations where the main gear is being "pinched" between the bottom bearing and the tail drive pulley, and causes the gear to not run free.

If necessary, remove the .5mm shim under the main gear to achieve the vertical play. The goal is to have as little vertical play in the system, but still have SOME, and the main gear runs free.

I think I have a problem then. I have play and the motor isn't installed yet.

I'll take the maingear/hub and mainshaft out tonight and check it out of the heli.

I solved this one last night.

The bottom brass bushing in the auto hub was tight fitting on the main shaft. After working it end to end on the main shaft for a few minutes with some ATF, it loosened up and now everything spins freely as it should. I didn't see any burs in the ID of the bushing, so I suspect it was slightly under tolerance.

Thanks Dave for jumping in with your tips.
