Speed heli set up with BD3.

Im going to finally set up a Speed heli with the BD3-SX.

I have asked Danny for his Speed file today but I would prefer to know what does what on the unit. On the Vbar which I have previously used for speed its simply a case of lowering the gains but there seems to be much more tweak ability on these units so I would prefer to know whats what.

On my normal heli' sI have the units singing without any major tweaking at all and they are solid but I have a feeling I may need to adjust some of these extra features for high speed flight??

I can't find much info on the forum here for speed so I asking for the help.

I have replied on this topic so many times already that i believe someone will make it sticky

Speed flying is somethings very special and it requires different settings and setup from what we normaly use.

1) agility and cyclic expo in the radio should be set very low but you have to still have it under control. So don't go with agility way too low! Let's say agility 10 and plus the cyclic expo in the radio. Do what ever you like and feels confortable to you.

2) the other thing is holding power and it's the combination of overall head gain + P gain + attitude holding range
First of all decrease P gain as you don't need any fast system reactions. Let's say P=30. Then you set head gain high enough but not way too high. Let's say as low as possible not helping here, am I. I know but it really depends on helicopter and its setup. You need to know that how much is enough.

Then you have the attitude holding range. Basically it's holding power so you want to set this value at its maximum. Just bump it up to its max without thinking.

3) there's one last parameter which is Decay rate. It's written in the manual that lowering this value in case the helicopter goes nose up in forward flight. So basicaly in fast forward flight you want to "push" the nose down as hard as possible. It means lowering this value down to its minimum is the think you want. So go down at its minimum for FFF.


Then don't forget that not every main blades are made for FFF! The blades is VERY important and you can't do much if the blades are not made for FFF. Forces are so high that it's impossible to tune it well without good blades!!!! Keep that in mind!

This is real good info and should be made into a sticky!!! I have my Banshee setup for speed as well as my BlackShark, I didn't know about the P gain so that helps. I did know about the attitude hold and decay.
Guess I need to work on the head gain some...

Be carefull with high speed flying. It's not that easy as it looks like and every single crash at 200+ km/h looks really bad. Your helicopters has to be in 100% shape!

Its still early days for me with this unit and the Speed Goblin but I don't know if its the heli, the unit or both but it feels VERY planted at speed but I am yet to go very fast as the heli is still only a few flights old and I want to get it bed in properly first.

I have units here to go in my other speed heli's which I have not got around to yet but one will be going in Spunky

Still not had lots of flights with it in speed but it does feel more planted than the Vbar. That looseness I had with the Vbar as the gains were low does not appear as apparent here.

I've just picked up the SG again and started flying it so will be able to ramp it right up and see how it goes but thus far, very impressed.
