Default Triabolo and Tri blade tail

I saw some posts from earlier this year about guys trying Tri blade tails on their Triabolo. I'm planning on a Tri800 next year and would like to hear some reports from those who are using them. Especially blade type and size, plug and play or any mods needed?

+1. My Tri 800 is on it's way somewhere between Germany and me. I've also been looking into getting a three bladed tail.

Just make sure your Triabolo has the 5mm tail shaft? The RcTek kit won't fit the new upgraded 6mm tail shaft assembly that came out.

There's a new three blade tail from SAB now. No idea if it fits but I saw it in one of the shops over here recently.

The SAB 3B tail fits a 6 mm tail shaft but I'm not sure how to get the pitch assembly to work. It also does not feel feel right to bastardize a lovely Minicopter with parts from other brands, albeit SAB. Might have to ask RCtek make a 6 mm version instead.

Also not sure if I want the SAB dampened design anyway, seems unnecessary.

From a technical standpoint I find the SAB heads and tail to be brilliant but I agree on the tail dampening. From my knowledge of how helicopters work, it is not needed because the tail has no cyclic input.

Having said that, it may be beneficial for reducing vibrations.

I have been trying for 3 weeks to contact RC-Tek about this. No answer to emails or any luck getting them to pick up the phone. Another option is here. The page opens to the 5mm version, but if you scroll down on the right you'll see a link for "Similar Products" It's a 6mm version for the Triabolo... pricey at 179 euros, but looks nice.

Well, so far my experience with their two blade comp tail is the damps tend to wear. And their initially tight tails soon develop slop under about a 10th the tension. The RcTek stays slop free, plus has the china weighted grips. The only drawback with RcTek is if you crash, you almost invariably bend the tri transition hub, and have to replace it. So I have spares myself. The hub itself seems to be uber tough, as Bob upgraded the pins to some kind of gnarly larger OD stock. And even with an almost total rekit on my 800 when I dumb thumbed it inverted last summer, the RcTek came out of it fairly well. Even though the impact shattered my SHS extended CF panels when the tail ejected and landed tail first. Whatever Bob is using for his tail shaft material is also much harder grade metal, and its od is precise.

I will contact Bob at RcTek and ask him for you what is up? Also I am pming you with his personal E.

I did get a hold of Bob, and he made a tri tail for me for 6mm. Shipped out yesterday.

Got mine for my Triabolo 800 today from Bob as well. Really liking it. There's a serious storm coming tonight though (forecast is over 25 m/s wind speeds) so I sadly won't be testing it until next weekend, but I have high expectations.

The ground clearance is really good with 115s as well! About 65 mm with the skids flat on the ground and 26 mm or so with the tailfin touching the ground.

I'm done and ready to maiden to. I'm probably a good month away at least, unless there's some major change in the weather. Do report on how the tail works. Looks like SAB tails?

Will do. Correct, I decided to try the 3 blade 115 mm from SAB because they are supposed to be balanced as a three blade set. Turned out to be pretty hard to find in stock.

If you didn't know about HeliDirect, they have the 115's and and 105's in stock.

Thanks, I considered ordering from them but the shipping price for just a set of blades was about the same as the blades themselves.

Here's why I'm grounded BTW. So far highest recorded wind gust today of 78.2 m/s and an average of about 48 m/s. It's more windy outside now, but there's a delay on the station reports of about 1-1.5 hours. Check the screenshot of the report from 1440 local time today.

Incredibly, the forecast for tomorrow isn't half bad so I might get a few flights tomorrow if the wind direction changes. This rock called Earth is a strange place...
