If you are discharging... 8A would be 1C and is what would be ideal.. but you will find your charger cannot discharge anywhere near that amount. This is why if I need to discharge large packs I use a couple of 12v car headlamps in series. Then it takes 20-30 minutes. But you need to monitor the voltage carefully.. if you forget your lipo will go all the way down to zero

So when discharging my LiPo or to Storage Charge them....it would be best to leave the set rate at 0.1a or would it be aright to bump that up to like .5a?

Discharge as fast as you charger can. Think how fast a heli does it? A full pack in 4-6 minutes.

Normally I field charge with my 4010 and power it with two deep cycles in series for 24V (sometimes 3 for 36v) this way I get full output (although I've never needed it yet)

For home.. I use one of these... link below.. the $110 24v47A unit... and it works fantastic. Of course it's not enough to get full output on the charger but its enough for me.

Did you have to put in a bigger breaker in your home to run it ....

Does it have the dc ground mod or would I have to do that myself ...

And the pin board that must be ground for power on and fan do I do that as well ...

I dont think as of yet ill get anything bigger that a 550 size I want to stay with one pack per flight maybe a 6s 600 but that is the limit but I want at least 6 packs which I figure would be enough to keep me up for a while and this charger will have room for me to grow into should I go any bigger down the road I do have some electronics schooling under my belt certified ac tech but I dont use it

Ive not heard of those. I just use $80 120Ah deep cycles. The 24v47A can run full out on a typical house circuit. I've not blown a breaker.

Default Wow

It just occurred to me Sly has been actively maintaining this thread for over two years. Not only HF members, but countless Google users have come here for good easy to understand answers to their Lipo questions, and gotten em.

Kudos Slyster! Thanks for 2 years of helping all of us Lipo rookies not burn down our houses, keep our batteries in good order, and save a few bucks in the process.

What about us folks with the LITTIE baby ones, 1s 25c ect...As it stands now I'm so confused about these dang lipos, 1c,1s,, 15c, 235 30c... I do understand the 1,2,3 = number of cells, also was told to NEVER charge these 1 cell greater than 30ma BUT the manual that came with the heli, says .6 max, in fact the charger defaults to .6 but I always scale down to .3. My bigger ones, 2 ea.1300ma (45-90c discharge)3s nano-tech and a 3s 1350 eflite 30c what are those charged at, Don't understand these formulas, is there a plain dummy's 101 explaination on all these diff ratings? This little heli-max says 1Wh on it

Sorry for being so dumb here but cant afford to keep e buyin batts every week. The charger I have for the bigger 3s batts is a dual charger, AC/DC min charge rate is .8, max is 5a. It's a Dynx 245 from Hobby Town. It doesn't have a storage charger on it. After readin these posts now I'm worried that I have ruined these 1300 and 1350 ones I have and haven't even used them yet, They came with a BL 300X I got so the first thing I did was to charge them and put them away. What is the best way to DS them without running the heli, (cant fly it yet)

Thanks for the advice folks

It's easy (see first post).. if the packs are 1300mah.. just charge at 1.3A for a 1C charge (1 hour) or 2.6A for a 2C charge (1/2 hour).

Just don't store them full. Your charger must have a storage charge or discharge feature?? If not get one that does. Don't over discharge either.. get a cheapy cell spy meter to see what each cell is at (or your charger should show each cell as well on the screen?)

Read this entire website.. very valuable.
