Default 500E Super Combo, 500 ESP Super Combo or 500E PRO Super Combo

Hi, Currently learning to fly with a blade400. OK with tail in hovering, but having problems getting nose in without crashing. I think going up a size for better stability in wind etc will help and I'm considering a Trex 500 (already have pheonix, where I can fly nose in no problem).

Question is, which of the different 500 models would be best suited to my needs?

I read somewhere that the new 500E Pro has a lower geared tail and therfore needs a higher headspeed to hold steady. Perhaps more suited to 3D than learning?

Is the ESP worth the extra over the old 500E, or would the old 500E be the best value?

Also, does anyone have any experience of the new Align GP900 yet? Is it better than the 780, does it do away with the need to buy another receiver (I have the DX6i from blade) and is it worth buying the 500E Pro to get the new gyro?

Any other comments much appreciated. Thanks.

Keith

Hi Keith,

Is the "old" 500e you referring to the 500e Super Combo? If it is, then it's not "old" the electronics been upgraded and it has some plastic parts. The 500e Super Combo is actually the "new" upgraded version.

Search a few thread below..I think it's called "Pulled the trigger on 500e...by reimorei" has info regarding 500e super combo.

If you meant an "old" 500 then my apologies.....don't know about that version. Seems like Align always comes out with new and improve helis models and it can get quite confusing

I purchased the 500e Super Combo and with the savings versus the ESP or PRO models, I bought 6S lipos and a AR7000

Aloha

Hi, Thanks for the reply. Yes I stand correct the 500e Super Combo is relatively new. I think the plastic parts on the 500e is straight forward, but for example, does the 500e have the lowered battery tray to fit larger lipos?

Best regards,

Keith

the new 500E(with the white and blue canopy) has the newer frame. and fits 3000mA lipos fine. its a great little heli if you get it for under $450.

I like mine a lot. and converted it to FBL after I crashed it hard enough to break a blade grip. I used a RJX head and a beastx. so it costs $270 to convert it. I prefer beastx over 3G or 3GX.

I just finished building a 500e pro. Other than coming with a damaged canopy the quality is top notch. It has a programmable head so you can set it up for normal flight or for 3D the adjustable delta settings determine how quickly the head responds to inputs. It is very stable and downright a blast to fly!! It also has a torque tube tail my 1st heli with a tt and I really like it
The new GP900 gyro can be used with satellites but with a dx6i you wont have remote gain control. I have a dx6i too and I had to use a receiver to be able to adjust gain(similiar to the 3gx I think). Using just satellites it puts gain adjustment on ch 7. The wiring is quite abit different too. All your servos and esc plug directly into the gyro and then it has signal wires that you hook up to the rx. Makes for some extra wires but I had plenty of room inside the frame to neatly hide everything. As far as performance I've only ran 4 packs thru it but it appears very solid and programming it is just like the gp780(which I have on my 450 sport and it works great!)
I say go for the 500e Pro!
