how to keep main gear from slipping down
My 915 setup seems to have so much power that it will slightly slip the main gear on hard punch outs. I will notice this in flight because suddenly it will not climb out as fast. I can land, slide the gear up, and it's fine again. I have tried a brand new gear, and hot gluing but after a while it will still slip. If I CA it, I'm afraid of breaking more stuff in a crash.
I should note that I am using the solid carbon shaft from wow. Maybe it's just me, but I thought it seemed a microscopic amount thinner that the stock shaft. Maybe this is the problem? |

Small hand drill and a small screw worked great for me and a few others I fly with

Of course you want the main gear to be able to slip down. Saves a lot of other damage.
Snapping it back on, after a crash is no big deal. I have never had it come loose under normal flying/landing conditions. |

With stock or c05m setup, yes, I let it slip on crashes. But with my hp05s setup, I was tired of the gear slipping even without crash. The hp05s setup is so sensitive to vibration that even if the gear slips just a bit on the flat (with the hp05s power it will do that with normal flights) enough to confuse the gyro and trigger the random 90-degree right turn. Plus it's much more likely to have the gear slip down enough on a crash and get ground by the pinion to the point it has to be trashed. Plus somehow I don't crash as often with the hp05s setup as my c05m setup (go figure, touch wood). So basically, it's much more advantageous to have the main gear pinned on my hp05s setup. I pin it with a sewing needle (drill a 24 thou hole).
EDIT: Oh yes, and I have had a handful of crashes with the main gear pinned down. Interesting enough, these crashes (including one without throttle hold) did no damage not even bending the feathering shaft [knock on wood]. |

I had so much trouble with the gear spinning off on my 2S HP08, that I've machined a thin aluminum collar that is a very tight fit over the gear-hub with an aluminum set-screw aligned with the flat spot.
Yes I'm thrown away a few stripped gears, but damage to the upper rotor parts has been minimum. At least they are not spinning off in flight.

Get a brand new gear and MH solid carbon main shaft, nice and tight...I wouldnt worry about making parts survive a crash with the 915, a stripped main gear will be the least of your problems in a good crash!

Your main gear is just too worn out. With the 915, I end up ordering main gears 5-10 at a time. If it's not eating your gear on a crash, its probably breaking the D cutout open in it. Its all give and take with these things...Better motors...less durability.
