Exclamation Lost control of my Warp… two times.

Hello there,

I have the Warp 360 with the stock motor, HiModel 60A, 3 × TGY-306-HV, Align DS-525m and Gens Ace 1400 mAh LiPo. For the Tx/Rx part, I fly with and Spektrum dx6i and OrangeRX R620 + OrangeRX R100 Satellite. The gyro is an Align 3gx V5.

My first crash was at the flight #12. I was hovering reversed and suddenly, no control! Just one canopy standoff and one breakable servo arm

My antennas were not well-disposed at this time, so I changed it and now this is like that :

I was pretty confident this setup will be good. But yesterday, another loss of control (flight #21)… The heli was not really distant from me, but I was making an pirouette after rising vertically (I don't know the english name… fast forward, then 90° up, then pirouette when the heli stop rising). So the heli drop down from pretty hard altitude and there is almost no damage. The Warp seems to be quite solid

This time the receiver was blinking (not the satellite) while I did not check that for my first crash -_-

I am not sure that is a problem is Rx/Tx as I disposed the antennas free of other electronic or carbon frame. If my problem is electric, it could cause that kind of failure I guess…

Do you have some tests to do in order to know if the problem is radio-based or controller-based for example? The BEC of the HiModel is 5.5V/6A, this is enought right?

Thank you, and sorry for my english :-/

It sounds more like bec problems than radio to me. To test you could move your cyclic stick up and quickly (with TH on or motor unplugged) to see if the bec kicks out

Do the servo test first, if that's all good then do a standard range check. You may want to have a friend help with the range check.

If still nothing then it may be the RX/satellites. Personally, I wouldn't trust the Orange gear on a heli like this... I would only trust those on cheap foamy airplanes. I've seen a few guys have issues with these receivers.

Thank you for yours answers. I have just made a range check without the satellite (I have broken it…) and I have at least 20 steps.

I have made the mnc's test and it's weird: when I have just plugged the battery, I can shake my sticks as I want, the red LED on the controller stay light. But after 2 or 3 minutes, the LED is blinking (even when I just move the heli, not use the radio) and after the LED shut off!

When the LED is off, I have still the control of the heli and the receiver does not blink.

Do you think my controller is too weak?

I once had a DX6i (old version, DSM2) that shown the same problem. I crashed two Storm 450s in the same day, they simply fell dead from the skies.

Since you are using Orange, I can tell you are using DSM2.

I'd rather switch to DSMX. If your TX is DSM2 only, get a new one. Since I switched, I had zero problems in more than 2 years.

How many amps does your BEC put out on 6S. Many of them have a sliding scale where the output amperage is inversely proportional to the input voltage (more cells=less current).

I would, as others have suggested, use actual Spektrum receivers. I have used the orange ones successfully in small foam airplanes, but would not try them in a helicopter.

Is your tail boom grounded?

Are your belts lubed with silicon?

Hello,

I have a Spektrum dx6i with DSM2 / DSMX. My Orange RX is DSM2. I use another one OrangeRX receiver in another heli since 2 years without any problems.

Moreover, I have made a test. When my Warp lost radio connection, the receiver LED shut down and will light up when the connection will be back again. If if cut the receiver power and power on again, then the LED will blink. I understand that a blink LED is for a brownout, not for a tx/rx linkage cut.

So the problem is electric I guess. Maybe static (my tail boom is not grounded, the belt is not lubed) or just a weak BEC. It's given for 5.5V / 6A at output but they don't precise for which input voltage… (it's 2 - 6S, I use 6S).

I am thinking about purchase a Gryphon Polaris BEC GSR-3030. It's given for 5A continuous at 22.2 V and I can output more than 5V with it (I have HV servos). Turnigy 306-HV are known to be MKS 95 clone and to need a huge quantity of power.

Do you think I am right?

I have this on my Warp #1:

A bit overkill I admit, but never any brownouts.
