I have the helical gear and they don't make a 11 tooth pinion.

I also have the helical gears and I'm using Align pinions. I had a 12 tooth Align pinion on it and just put on an 11 tooth. The Next-D pinions are very expensive over here but I think I only paid something like £6.00 for the Align and they fit just fine, the slant angle is the same.

I ended up at 50% which gives me 1950 rpm. It flies nice at this. I may have to find some Align 11 tooth pinions. Are they steel ?

Well 50% isn't too bad and may really be fine. I was running very low throttle on a 600 electric with a Jive 80 and it seemed perfectly happy but it also wasn't anywhere near the max power.

The Align pinion is not steel. It has a shiny silver finish and feels about the same weight as other pinions but it is not ferrous enough to stick to a magnet so I'm not sure exactly what it is.

I thought the align pinions I had in the past were aluminum. I guess the rave helical gear is mod 1 ?

Yeah it's mod 1. It's not aluminium but I'm not sure what it is. It has a shiny plated finish, maybe brass underneath?

Just to give you an idea; A steel 13 tooth weighs 27 grams, an aluminium 13 tooth weighs only 9 grams!

This 11 tooth weighs 20 grams. (these are all the same basic size pinions, slant mod 1 for 6mm shaft that I have used on the Rave).
