Long leads
Every servo on my bird has long leads. If I shorten the wires what would be the best way to reconnect them? Or is a 24 awg butt connector work just fine?

A pin crimper and spare pins are the best way in the world to shorten your servo wires. Just cut to desired length, strip, crimp on new connectors, put the housing on and bam! Custom length servo wires. You could also hand solder and cover each wire with shrink tube. But, that leaves a hard spot in your wire, and if not done correctly can be more hassle than it's worth.

Trust me, I know that struggle!
It's especially bad on Micro servos. Almost every manufacturer seems to think we'll be using them on huge heli frames or something. While it's nice to have the extra length, it would be nice to have a modular plugged servo with custom length wires available. I don't mind doing them up myself, but If someone were to offer a service for say custom, model specific servo lead lengths for specific applications, that would be awesome!
