Ok it has been a long road getting to the point where this heli is frikin awesome and I am VERY happy with the outcome. I have had some major issues over the last few months getting this thing done, including falling out of the sky for no reason that I can find 6 times from memory, each time requiring a rebuild. I think it was an issue with the electronics!?!?!? but this is just a guess. Now it has BK servos all around running HV direct off lipo. Removed the push glow and put an extension on so now I use an old school glow stick and can still start without removing the canopy.

But, I really felt that this would be the perfect heli to keep in the car and fly at short notice whenever the opportunity came up. All I need is the heli, bottle of fuel, starter and a small charger in the car to charge the rx pack on the way.

I did have to use the dremel "a lot" to get everything to fit properly and the canopy also needed some extra holes:-)

From memory these are some key alts:
Dremel fan shroud.

Spacers inside fan shroud holder so nut would not run out of thread on motor shaft.

Cut small amount off motor shaft end so it doesnt hit at top.

Spaced out lower skid plate so doesnt hit motor

X5 blade grips, Switch 523mm main blades.

X5 boom and tail, switch 86mm blades.

X5 boom supports

Moved the tail control servo, rod etc to the other side (this was due to it hitting the motor needles on the existing side and I didnt want to start putting extensions etc on) still a close fit throttle side but it is better.

Heli is very tail heavy so I have used the biggest rx lipo I could fit, plus there is a lead weight tucked up the inside of the nose inside the frame.

I will try to get a video at some stage, but can say that this heli flys very light and has tons of power, is very stable with no vibes (tail fin is solid) and still running rich I'm getting 6-7 mins of hard flying before hitting the header. ALSO, autos really well.

Thats about all I can think of, but if anyone has any questions just ask here and I will try to answer.

Honestly the NX4 stock is fine, but NX5 is next level:-) if you have the patience to do the mods.

Cheers Peter

Awesome, thanks! I've got it 99% done. Putting the formula tail on, trying to set up the tail/throttle servos, and get the skids to fit somehow.

I saw another guy on here had the X5 Formula canopy on his. I've got 5 of those lying around so I'll try to utilize one of them. Should be bigger to fit all of the extra crap

Then to tackle learning nitro... eek! Thanks for the instructions!

Here are some more close up pics. I used a fishing sinker in the nose for balance:-)

Also a vid. This was taken before doing any tuning etc, and I was just beating it a bit to see if anything fell off:-)

Sorry the quality is crap, assuming the link works.

I am so tempted to do this as well. Looks and sounds great!

It sounds like a little 700n

They're so fun. I'm still in the tuning and setup phase but at stock needle settings it'll do anything I want it to. I'm flying 1-2 tanks then checking which screws got loose, reloctiting etc until everything's sorted out, then I'll let er rip

Hmmm don't know if that will fit. The os55 hzr BARELY fits, it's super snug.

Basically: drill out the clutch hub to fit the bigger motor shaft, cut down the motor shaft so it fits in the clutch bell, trim the fan shroud so it fits, extend the bottom of the frame/skid mount so the motor has clearance. Also need the T10 motor mounts. That might be your issue with a 60 motor

Put an X5 boom/supports/main grips and 500+mm blades.

Might have to trim the canopy too

Anyone know of any bigger fuel tanks that would fit the frame? Not worried about the added weight with the monster motor in there. Just looking for a little longer flight time. I'm running 4-5 minutes (5 if I use the header tank) at 2400 rpm governed. I'm running rich to be safe, but wouldn't mind another minute or 2 if I could squeeze an n5c tank in there or something...

Your best option will probably be to get a dubro tank that can be setup as a header tank. And then get rid of the header tank and use the new tank as the header tank. Then find a way to secure it with zip ties. I always zip tie my header tanks anyway. A couple strips of two sided tape to damped vibration, and some zip ties.

Mount this guy sideways:

You will have to find a way to divert the relief of this tank to teh top of it, so when you fill you can get most of the air out.

Bernoullis equation gets you every time!

Or switch functions of the tanks. Make this tank the main one, and the one in the frame your auxiliary since it has the relief at the top.
