So will the cap solve this?

This is the biggest 600 class motor available

FWIW, from the numbers alone it looks like you can get very close to the max rating of your ESC with that motor. I'm not sure how hard those numbers are, but here are the ratings:

YGE: "Max 120A continuous with good cooling. 5 sec 150A"
Scorpion: Max Peak Power 5770 Watts (5 seconds)

5770W / 44.4V = 130A

I don't know which direction the "fudge factor" would work here, but if the Scorp was able to pull more than 5770W for a short while (likely?) or your YGE was not living quite up the published numbers then you might be able to shut it down at will...

That may be more info than knowledge, but I find the numbers interesting in this situation.

Also I feel like the extreme cold 10°F played a role in it... I'll know tomorrow when I take it out... supposed to be 45°F

Wasn't the cold... took it out today, first time 80% throttle, shut it down with some pitch pumps... next 85%, shut it down with some consecutive hard collective moves, third time 90%... I pushed it pretty hard... not all out, but it did not shut off. Still bogged though... didn't get the cap yet to try that but I wonder if the 120 cannot handle this motor on this heavy 630 flying hard

Flew very smooth today when I wasn't trying to shut it down... very easy on the collective and it flew great, however I didn't buy this motor so that I could just fly easy... I'm a stickbanger lol I love it

It was the pitch... dropped it down to 13 from 14.5... perfect now

just a quick not regarding caps. Not all have +/- labels for direction.
Positive is always the longer end.

I should have looked further down on the thread in this forum before posting essentially the same issue.

If the ESC shuts down due to over current, I would have assumed that there would be an error code or beep but I didn't get any indication other than the motor shutting down.

Did the folks that had the issues earlier ever get to the bottom of things?

Quick update on my situation:

I am able to reproduce this on the bench now. I am running HV XPert servos with a mini-vBar.

If I set the BEC for the YGE to 8v and to rapid pitch pumps on the bench with the heli spooled up (blades off of course), I am able to brown out the mini-vBar and the motor cuts off for about 2 seconds and then starts spooling back up. No error codes on the YGE and the MiniVBar log shows up as missed packets from the sats. Sometimes there is also a low voltage rail message.

I am pretty sure my issue is that the servos are either over-drawing the BEC or it is the reverse current issue that is discussed in this post: http://www.vstabi.info/en/node/1422.

I am going to try adding a capacitor and also try using a 2S lipo to see what happens.

i did some bench testing yesterday, and just running heli blades off. no input from sticks. the motor would shut down a second then spool back up to a higher head speed. could not really notice it with blades on flying that it was increasing head speed. but could really tell with blades off. put blades on hovered for a bit shut down spooled back up higher head speed. flew again no problems. very strange.
