Default 12s

What pinion would you you need for 12s on a 510 kv motor for 2500-2700 and is there a pinion available for this range?

Depending on your flying style, a 12-14 tooth pinion will do.
The 12 tooth will give you a Headspeed of 2354 at 4.2 V per cell
And the 13 tooth will give 2550 at 4.2V per cell.
A 14 tooth will give you 2747.

You may want to consider using MrMer's HS calculator. According to the calculator, for the E5 you would need the 15T pinion to govern over 2,500rpm HS, or the 14T pinion if using fixed end points.

Default Important update to the manual:

Quoted from Matt's post on the Synergy Support Forums:

Quote:
Hello Everyone,

A short tip concerning the Ball Link Adapter on Page 46 of the E5 Manual.......

Bad things will happen if you attempt to remove the M3x16mm bolt without first removing the M2.5x12mm set screw. Since the M2.5 set screw is sometimes sitting against the M3 bolt, unscrewing the M3 bolt without removing or backing out the M2.5 set screw will destroy the bolt as well as the aluminum Ball Link Adapter.

I've updated the E5 manual to provide caution.

Thanks,

Matt Botos

This would have been nice to know prior to loctiting everything.

I thought those cap screws were hard to take out.

Unfortunately the Align booms are 21.5mm OD and Synergy Booms are 22mm OD. They fit but the clamps don't tighten up like they should. sorry.

hey guys, i'm about to place my order for an e5 and i have a few questions, please.
what is the pinion that comes with the kit, please? they only say "pinions included". i'd like to have pinions for a 6 and 12s configuration.
it's going to be an stretched version. so, which parts should i order to increase the tail rate?
what else should i buy?
thanks a lot.

The E5 kit comes with two pinions; 12T and 14T. They are not the "hard coat" type.

For the optional 4.5:1 tail ratio, I believed the parts are 320-154 and 320-112.

You may also want to consider some nice upgrades like the 200-411 metal tail slider and QuickUK magnetic canopy mounts on the front. You may also want to consider the Lunsford 1-½ inch (38.1mm) turnbuckles on the swash plate to blade grips for fine tuning tracking, and perhaps the Lunsford 1-⅞ inch (47.63mm) turnbuckles from servos to swash plate. The metal bell crank upgrade gets very nice reviews. The 5.5 link pliers, the Boto-Sizer, and the Boto-Lube are generally considered "must have" items.

The included pinions are listed on page 29 of the E5 manual. The transmission gear notes are on page 12.

As for the Boto-sizer, you definitely need it or you will end up with ball links that are too tight which can cause tail wags and head wobbles, among other things.

Page 12 of the E5 manual. Synergy posts the helicopter manuals online. The manuals are very good without confusing losses in translation. Part numbers are generally included in the diagrams. No issues trying to get a hold of the most current version of the manual. Synergy also has a dedicated forum where you can ask questions to team pilots and the man himself.
