My bad, of course there is no need for "complete disassembly". It all comes down to the question of whether the tail center can be easily removed from the boom. If that is so, the required effort is indeed comparable. Sorry for the confusion, I was wrongly extrapolating from my situation.

In my case I will probably have to separate the boom from the rest of the heli ("complete disassembly" was a poor choice of words) to get that center piece out, it is a really thight and loctited fit. In the Hawk RC tail case design, this problem is avoided because there is no center piece that can be stuck.

cb,

I really don't think the loctite on the tail case will hold it "tight" like it does with thread screws. When I fit my tail case into the new 0.5mm boom, it was a snug fit but I used loctite anyway. After my crash I needed to replace the tail boom, and the thought crossed my mind as to how tight the tail case would be in there. Upon removing the screws and giving the tail case a twist, it broke free from the loctite without having to crank on it.

Either way it's all good, Sir.

This is true. Looking at the X3, it looks perfect from the pictures. Now, I just need to convince my wife that getting one of these too is in the name of scientific comparison against my warp, and in any case, I can use the same lipo's! The tail does look to come off more easily; I need to compare.

back to the original thread - improvements to the idler alignment - two thoughts:

if the original 'special washers' worked so well, there wouldn't be an improved version shipping in current kits.
if the original 'special washers' worked so well, they wouldn't be sold out at FastLads.

For the record, mine are still OK, just, so they're even the fiddly for the best of builders (no intentional bragging here). When are the improved washers likely to ship? Please can I have a pair to 'test'?

I already have mine, it's a lot better than the original ones that's for sure.

I personally had no issues with the stock washers and aligning the motor properly. If everything moves smoothly its fairly easy.

You know you are not aligned if the motor belt slips to one side after a few rotations by hand.

On his behalf, that was his intention.

I intended for it to be mounted that way, as I'm not using the counter bearing.

You'll just need to flip the motor mount over .

They were available but now out of stock. If you ask me though, you are better off without them. The angles seemed to a little off and hurt alignment. Maybe that's why they aren't available. I can't speak for the masses but I have them and there really isn't much benefit. I had enlarged my frame opening around the pulley so although they appeared to cant the pulleys slightly, they didn't rub.
