Default Landing Skid Upgrade

Hi,

I want to upgrade the skids on my 4g3 to something like the MIA tuff skids. Does anyone know the best place to purchase them from the UK? I don't want to be stung with a huge shipping bill.

I was looking at the CB180 skids, would they fit the 4g3?

Cheers

Garry

As far as MIA to you, i don't know, but I made my own out of music wire. They are tough, light and cheep. And I could make them as wide and high as I wanted.

Do you have any pics to share - I've been thinking about something for my 4g6 and this sounds like an intriguing option.

OK take a length of music wire. Start in the middle and bend each end down making a spot in the middle the width of the heli frame. Go down a couple of inches on each side, and bend the wire back twards you. Go a few inches on each side twards you and bend the wire up. Go a couple of inches on each side up the wire and bend them twards each other. Clip the wire in the middle of the cross over and you have your skids. Attach them in much the same way as the 4g3 skids attached. One piece, no toe or heel to get cought on the carpet, and tough. I'll try to get some pictures to make it clearer.

Thanks for the information guys - SQRT(2) - I'm anxious to see your pics as I'm having a hard time envisioning what this looks like. Sounds really resilient!

Jens - nice looking 4g3. Even the tail rotor and canopy look modded. I'm curious about the weight difference on the align landing gear as I had looked at something similar from a gaui by was afraid it would weigh too much.

Since I'm considering this upgrade for my 4g6 (have the mia tuff setup on my 4g3), I'm also going to have to figure out the elevation difference (the front mounting point is lower than the rear mounting point).

Thanks again for the information and pics!

Solution 4G6/similiar to 4G3, see pictures.

Best regards,

Jens

Jens - that looks really nice. Is this also the trex 250 LG? How about the center portion - all the trex parts I've seen seem to only have the skid and pipe? Is that something you've cut from CF? Also, what are you using for the screw spacing - is it tubing of some sort? How about weight?

Thanks!

I am using the mod. Trex 250 skids for both 4G3 and 4G6.
Skids are available in different colors like you want or like (ebay).

I am using 0.8 mm CFK.
.. and a fretsaw for cutting

screws are metric:
2 pieces M1.6 x 8 mm and
2 pieces M1.6 x 12 mm

For srew spacing I am using this black plastic tube (used normally for the rx antenna) which is included in the Align landing skid set.

The total weight with screws is 4.1g. Compared to Walkera 4G6 skid it is 1.7 g more ...

Best regards,

Jens

I don't remember if there was a picture, but I do remember reading how someone used Gaui 100 skids.

Jens - thanks for the additional info and specifics. I'll have to see what my local hobby shop has - otherwise I can go online.

Steve - thanks for the heads up on the gaui 100. I think the pieces I was looking at were from the 200 which seemed too large. I'm glad (and surprised) to hear that the trex 250 lg setup is only 1.7 g heavier than the stock 4g6.

Stop, it is modified:

1. The aluminium pipes are shortened
2. The holders are grinded to this thin shape.

Only if you proceed like this, the total weight incl. CF-battery holder and screws is 4.1g.

Best regards,

Jens
