Default EXI 450

As my first attempt to do a build I found a EXI 450 bare bones kit on xheli. price was right for me. Now I have to start getting the motor and such and as I have in mind getting a good used TX / radio and gyro etc... I would like to hear of some of the problems / victories that any one has had doing a build.
This is what I have gotten so far and as i am on a tight budget this may be a long project !!! Thanks in advance for all info.

I was one of the first to get this kit. Overall....It was a great value.

Check out this thread to see some of my comments on the kit..... http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=800207 .

You can see many of the people at RCG wanted to do this as a budget bird but I did not. I ran all the same stuff I put in my T-Rex....

-DX7
-DS285s
-GY401 / 9257 combo
-35X ESC / 430XL combo

If I were you for a motor / ESC I would go with the Scorpion -8. For $100 (motor AND esc) you get an outstanding powerplant.

Only problem I ever had with this heli was bent blades and flybar out of the box. Really wasent an issue as I was going to change them anyway.

Hey Joe that is what I really want in the end is a solid stable and fun heli! I am treating this as a budget build but realize that quality is essential for being able to get it of the ground and back down with the same amount of parts working as went up!!! Thanks for the info and link I will check it out .

I have on of those on the way right now! I already have a similar heli that I built on a budget. The biggest savings that I found is that if you can live without 2.4ghz then you can get amazing deals on radios on ebay. I just bought a Futaba 7chp with a pcm receiver for $61!

I have one also.
Use Hitec 65 servos on cyclic. I use the HS 65 HB . Was using E-Flite S75 servos. It does fly with the smaller stuff , but is soooo much nicer with the Hitec's.
I am using Align BL motor / 35 amp ESC / RCE-600 Gyro.
Only thing I am wanting to change is the Gyro. I was going to get a 401 , but thought I would be ok with the RCE-600 gyro/servo set for same price. Mistake. This gyro is OK , but it does drift. It is an annoyance to me right now , but it does let me hover around.
I also put Align 8.4 G paddles on it. Sure made a noticable difference in hover stability.

I just received my EXI 450 and am very impressed. The metal swash and head is very tight with no slop at all! I almost ordered an upgrade metal head for my comet that cost as much as the whole EXI so I'm so pleased with this heli.
Any way there are several motors available from hobbycity for this size heli that cost less than $20 and good deals on escs if you want a bargan to get going.

I just got home Monday night from the hospital and the heli was there. Overall looks like it was made soundly and with the canopy on the heli looks awesome big!! I am going to try eventually to get a scale body for this one. Now for the real work to begin....saving money and watching ebay!!!!

Just found this thread... nice to see...

I have three EXI's at the moment and possible get a couple more on Boxing Day... XHlei is having another crazy sale after Christmas... So nows the time to grab on e of these excellent heli's at some crazy good prices.. and if you live in the US you can get free shipping...

Enough sales pitch... I have one EXI that I'm putting a DragonFly body from DarthDrk(Ed). So far its going slow as I'm in no rush... just finishing fillings seams , sanding and priming... The other two EXI's are waiting in the wings...

For motors I'm going to run a Mystery 4200 in one only because I have one sit'n around... The other I'll buy another 3500Kv from cnchelicopter because it has awesome power. GL-WS2632 3500 brushless motor w/fan for $23.00. Don't buy any ESC less that 35A and a 40 is even better because they generally have a switching bec in them. Servo's... you can get Hitec 65's for $19.00 a piece if you want good ones or TowerPro's for cheapies....

anyway.. hope this helps a little...

happy holiday and happy fly'n

Anyone know where to get a mainshaft for a MB450? Not xheli.com, not the last time I checked.

Hi, i am wundering how did that motor fit on you're heli? Did you had to reinstall a different pinion? I'm looking at cnc helicopters site, pinion is already installed.
