Hardware set for pro?
I have tried several shops to find a hardware or screw set for the Trex 450 pro to no avail. Where can I find a complete set of screws. I hate the Trex screws as they really do strip out easily. I have tried replacing my ball driver and hex hed sockets to fresh and they still will strip easy. Anyway, will a screw set from any of the Trex 450 kits be basically the same? One of the shop owners told me the screw sets for version 2 and pro 3 are different? True? I do need to find a set...

Yeah they're different. If you're stripping them out, you're doing it wrong... let the lock-tite do its job and don't wham them down so hard. They are mostly standard machine screws though, and you should be able to get them in bulk at a hardware store.

I'm not stripping them putting them in, it's taking them out, and that's even after using a bit of heat to try and loosen the lock tight. I have looked at hardware stores and they don't carry anything this small, at least I haven't been able to find a hardware store carring them this small. Well I would hope that Align would be coming with a hardware pack for this kit, soon. I'll try posting this question over on the rcgroup and see what happens. Thanks Jasmine..

www.rtlfasteners.com I think most are M2x6 on that heli. Look in your manual, find the sizes you need. All their stuff is hardened (12.9). They will not strip.

Oh that's harsh... I had the same issue with my tail case screws on the 250 - but I got a better hex driver and now it's all good.

Futaba 6EX
All of your videos ar ewonderful and a tool with which I would have been lost without.
I followed your ccpm setup videos and I had no problems until when you set the controll horns to 90 deg. Your radio has subtrim and mine does not so what to do about the channel 6 servo that even under the trim options there is no adjustment for channel 6. Do you think maybe one ay you will do a complete set up with the ever popular 6EX Fasst radio system ? You have been such a help to me I really feel almost guilty for bothering you with this but I have searched and searched and I cant find a heli set up for the 450 trex or how to address my problem. Sincerely, DD |

DD the lack of sub-trim is great weakness of the 6EX. If at all possible consider selling it and getting a 7C-FASST which is a far superior radio. Otherwise you can try buying another set of arms for your servo and just try them all to find the one that comes closest to 90deg.

thanks
I appreciate the advice, I was hoping that I woud be able to get some miracle cure and not have to spend the $ right now. Let me ask this, I have all of the servo arms at a perfect 90 deg. and the one that would be the pitch servo is off VERY VERY little, if I could sub-trimI would guess that less than 10 clicks would fix it. I f I go ahead and set the head up and get all the pitch correct and all am I going to have trouble because of the tiny bit of adjustment, will I notice it. Also bare in mind I am a fairly new heli pilot, I have gotten pretty good with the origional Blade CP and have not even attempted to do any 3D so I am going to be taking it very easy and just hovering and flying around a bit for awhile and maybe down the road I will upgrade the radio, for now Am I going to be able to get away with it for a while ?
I really appreciate yur help and I will be looking foreward to your ar any other helpful response. DD |

Yes you will get away with it just fine. I have flown my helis with far less than perfect mechanical setup many times and for basic flying it works OK. As your skills progress you will be able to feel the difference between a well tuned head and a muddled one, but I suggest you don't stress over it for now, just fly and enjoy. Upgrade the Tx when you can.

Another solution is to buy servo "wheels" and drill holes at the 90 position.
But as KG says you can get by with what you have. Bob

SPEED CONTROL LOW SOUND
Does any body know why the speed controler is sometimes loud and sometimes has a very low sound?

It has to do with the position of the motor. Turn the motor a little while it is beeping and you can hear the volume change. Remember the motor is what makes the beeps!

First let me say thanks Finless, these videos are a livesaver for all of us noobs getting started in the hobby. I have followed the CCPM vids 1&2 for head setup, but after everything I have a strange result. I have a DX7 radio, and the heli is one of the TREX V2 clones.
I zeroed out the model on the DX7 when I started. The only things I changed were reversing one of the servos (aileron if i remember) and changing the pitch value from +60 % (default) to -60% so that it would go in the right direction. The head setup appeared to go very well. Linear pitch curve, throttle at 50%. Servos at 90 first, then Swash level, then washout level, then mixing arms level, then zero pitch. When I was done, I threw blades on it and grabbed a pitch gauge. I have +11 degrees pitch at full stick and -7 degrees at low stick. Obviously something went wrong, as I was expecting the same (or at least almost the same) pitch change in both directions. I went back and reviewed the videos and I think I am doing everything correctly. Any suggestions as to where I went wrong? |

Hey TC - your linkages are off. What I usually do is work from the top... first set so that with zero pitch, your upper mixing arms are level, by adjusting the little links on top. Then working down... set so washout arms are level, by adjusting the long links. Then you will know where the swash needs to ride at zero pitch... center the servo arms and adjust the links to reach the swash. Probably those are the ones that are wrong, but since you only have 18 degrees total pitch range, something else might be off too. Should have 20-22 degrees of total pitch range.

Hi Jasmine,
I don't follow you on how you work from the top. What is the reference point? If I follow your guidance below, it checks out on my head right now: blade pitch is zero; upper mixing arms are level; washout is level. Servo arms are at 90 deg. When I get home later I can upload a picture of this to demonstrate that everything is level. Despite all of this, I get way more positive pitch at high stick than I get negative pitch at low stick. I am using a linear (default) pitch curve on the DX7: 0,25,50,75,100. I think the issue is something else, but not sure how to figure this out. |

Did you use a lot of subtrim to get the servos 90? And if so did you turn on EXP in the SWASH menu? There is a bug in the DX7 and X9303 that if you used subtrim to 90 the servos and you turn on EXP in the swash menu you can get uneven pitch. The more subtrim used with EXP on the more the delta you will see. Make sure EXP in the swash menu is OFF and see if that is it.
Also make sure the pitch trim (hov pitch) is centered. If this was not centered when you started setup, you will have to center it and start over. Bob

Thanks Bob. I didn't (intentionally) turn on EXP. I will double check it when I get home. I used some subtrim, I think one was at 28 and one was at 17 and the other maybe 22 or something close to those numbers. Not sure if those would be considered a lot. I didn't touch the HOV pitch trim intentionally either; if I remember correctly this is a digital trim at the top of the radio. Can the setting of this be measured somehow?

Yes the main screen shows you the hov trim setting when you move it and it looks like other trim gauges on the radio. It will make a different beep when it hits the center point.
