Default Tail Kicking and Drifting After Installing YEP

Hey Guys,

Recently installed a YEP 120LV on my T550 Pro. Controller is setup and Gov Store is activated. However, for some reason I'm getting a tail swaying or kicking as well as a drift during hover. Before I installed the YEP I didn't have this problem. I'm using a Align DS650 tail servo, 730MX motor and a full blue Vbar FBL controller. I've replaced the mounting tape on my controller thinking that perhaps vibration is causing the drift but to no avail.

Someone please help me sort this problem out?

You might need to reduce the P and I governor gains one notch on your YEP so it adjusts throttle a little less aggressively to eliminate the tail kick.

If you took off your main blades in order to set the governor store, you may have not put the same blade back in the same blade holder when you put them back on. If the blades aren't quite perfectly identical (a little warping or thinner or thicker blade root or difference in weight) that might throw off your setup enough to cause a little drift in hover.

If your head speed is lower than before, it might reveal a less than spot on leveled swash, where a higher head speed might have masked that imperfection before.

You might not have your blades properly tensioned...too tight or too loose. This can be more noticeable with DFC heads.

Thank you N,

That's helpful. When I originally setup my YEP I saw a video somewhere that suggested some P&I-gain settings that I decided to go with thus deviating from the defaults. Don't even remember what those settings were but I'm assumed that's why I wound up w/the tail kick. Afterwards I changed the settings back to default (P-gain: 0.9 I-gain: .05) but still wound up w/the same tail kick problem. Currently I'm in the process of completely turning off the Gov Store mode and just running a flat ungoverned TC to see if the issue goes away. If that works, then it will narrow the problem down to YEP governor settings. If it doesn't work, then perhaps there's something mechanical going on w/my T550. Alternately, if all else fails... I'll try to use the Vbar's external governor. But that will be a PITA I wasn't hoping to have to deal with.

Turned off Gov Store & Freewheel and the tail kicking is gone. I think the tail drift is gone too but was hard to see as I was hovering the bird at night w/low light. So definitely related to YEP governor settings. This brings me to my next question... What Gov settings do you guys suggest? Guess I should start w/the lowest P&I-gain. I tried what I was told was default (P-gain: 0.9 I-gain: .05) and was still getting the kicking. What are the lowest setting for P&I-gains? I've never had to adjust any of this as the CC default gov settings has always worked on all my birds.

Also... I have my Rx installed within the T550 frames making it difficult to access and unplug the throttle lead. What I'm wanting to ask is if it's possible to connect the throttle lead from the YEP to a Y-harness then plug one end of the harness to the Rx and the other end of the harness free so that when I need to tune the YEP I can just grab the free lead from the Y-harness and plug it into the Program Card.

Had the same problem with the YGE/YEP governor and the Robird G31, no amount of tweaking could fix it so I just switched to the internal governor on the FBL unit and the problem went away.
