Yeah, you can get one for twice the price from Banana Hobby or only $70 more from Hobby Lobby... But that's only because it's on sale
I'd rather get an Alfa from Hobby City than sponsor that kind of competition squashing...

WEll i have a good repor (spelling) with Tony at Art-Tech since the days back at the other forum with the MD500 Lama and large scale lama they were coming out with. So if anything i can always call on him as we chat almost nightly about the new stuff they are coming out with.
I really dont like the other p-51's they arent as true to scale as the art-tech version, some the windscreen is way back, or too low and just not the right shape yet they classify it as a D... Alfa's P51D Marie is pretty close but no cigar in my oppinion compared to the Art-Tech plus its smaller than the Art-tech version and only 3 channels Art-tech's has a 3 inch wingspan advantage and 4 channel, Ailerons on the Alfa is run by only 1 servo while on the Artech uses one for each, the fuse and wing on the Alfa is Hollow foam while the Art-tech is solid foam, so naturally much stronger, Alfa's ARF also comes with ZERO just the plane, dont know why they even bother calling it ARF as you still need to buy motor, radio, servo's, ESC. So to me $149 was just way way to much for a smaller, less channel, less equipt, less reinforced model. There are alot of pics here on this link of the Alfa P51D http://www.hobby-lobby.com/field_p51marie.htm So if you were me at the time, $109 for the Art-tech (with everything) or $149 for the Alfa (With nothing), the choice was very clear. |

Agreed on all points. The Art-Tech was definitely the one to get while they were available at that price. I would have ordered long ago, but they were always out of stock and when they got them in they were usually gone in a day. Art-Tech makes some great planes, but they sure do make them difficult to buy
I guess I'll just rebuild the Mini instead. Flies great and looks like a proper 'Stang when you get rid of the horrible anti-glare sticker.

Well after much debate and brain washing this will be on my Bench next week.
going to be a screamer with the motor i'm about to select.. following this guys setup. F-86 Sabre Ducted Fan Jet Wingspan: 29" wingspan Length: 29" long, Wing Area: 201 sq. in. wing area, Weight: 16.05 oz. flying weight. (about 440g) A very versatile jet, can be hand launched and will cruise along at 2/3 throttle and turns into an absolute screamer at full throttle. What you need: Motor: Around 1500kv (diameter not more than 24.5mm) Battery: 1300mAh 3S~4S (Approx ESC: 25A Radio System Servos: 9g x 3 (HXT900 the perfect choice) Propeller: 9x6 (approx) |

you can always put on micro retracts... piont is to keep it light and fast with the least amount of drag.

No way... You can't really fit good scale retracts on that bird, and you don't want the extra weight anyway. If you worry about belly landings, get the optional drop tanks instead. You can easily hide small wheels on their bottom for pavement landings.
That's definitely on my short list too... and the Alfa is supposed to fly as great as it looks. Nice choice, Wolfie

You guys really are going to lead me down the path to divorce!
30 years, my marriage has survived 5 kids, private school tuition, me being a cop, the years I was drinking, major illness, surgury, car crashes, economic hard times, and all the rest. But, you guys and a constant stream of expensive new toys may just do it in. My wifes responses over the years - "A Harley? Ok baby, it'll be fun. Restore the old Mustang? Ok, sure, I guess it will go up in value. Turn the spare bedroom into a workshop? Hmm.. Ok, it will give you a place to work on stuff for the house. Wire the house for a computer network? I suppose, I guess having a couple (6) computers will help the kids with school work. Fly helicopters? Well.... Fly a model Jet? HAVE YOU COMPLETELY LOST YOUR MIND? " I just got to figure a way to sneak it in to my shop. How big is the package?

ROFLMAO
Finn, it wasnt me being anal about the gear, i could care less about it i'm all for speed, in fact the pics i took of the P51D i only had on the Gear just for Picture sake, all other flights were gearless, its night and day difference. so no way in hell gear is going on this, although i have found very miniature electric retracts that will fit Yes this is supposed to fly like a dream as evident in that video i posted, i may just pick up the 1/16th version as well. that can hold retracts no problemo Wiz, just tell the wife to chill tell her your looking at planes instead because heli's are just too expensive teehee |

Doesn't it scrape the belly of the plane? Or does it have a hard surface on it?
I am good with planes. I always fly them on afpd and I can do loads of tricks. But nothing will beat helicopters. Lot's of people are used to seeing rc planes. Rc helicopters are not seen a lot so its good showing off your heli if your confident flying around people not like me If I get an rc plane it will be a stunt one. Im not too fussed on the speed. I just love doing quick rolls and flying upside down close the the floor etc -Jonny

you try to land in grassy area....
if your going to land on pavement you can put numerous things on the bottom to avoid scraping the foam. Look at the guys build thread in the link provided with his youtube video you will see he put some carbon sheeting on the bottom. some people put small wheels at the bottom... up to you how you want it, but for the Sabre F86 it doesnt come with landing gear, the P51D does. |

It's ok, I still have a long time before I need to look at aeroplanes. Christmas is a long way away. I can't believe that christmas was nearly 7 months ago! I know we all don't like how fast time goes by but if you think about it. The faster time seems to travel the quicker we get to pull some amazing 3d stunts! That's what makes me feel better when I think of how fast time goes.

The projects are stacking up fast! I'm not sure where to begin.
I'm working on a CNC modded Lama for the Lama forum, adding extended inner shafts and painting the body on my Twister Chinook, building one of my new version EXIs (it's really nice!), still working on a coupla fuselages, oh ya, and my CopterX 250 arrived yesterday. Now that I'm retired, I don't know how I ever found time to go to work!!

Your lucky! I want a 250 lol. I want everything though hehe.
I really want to get a 1/10 nitro touring car. But that would set me back at least £150. And I need more stuff for my helis. There is just too much stuff I want/need I have been thinking of taking the nitro engine out of my bro's plane and putting it in my electric rc car. I don't know if it's possible and I would have to figure out a way of getting the engine out of the plane lol I think it is sealed in the front. Also, the pinion on the engine would have to be the same diameter as the motor. So all of these things make it sound not possible. I will try and do something though. -Jonny
