Default Home Made Skids

My 4G3 is long gone but since I am still being asked how I made my skids...here you go...the stuff I used is called Strip Styrene, I used this product but you can get others. Try a local hobby shop that sells trains :

You will see one of these stands in the store.....http://www.evergreenscalemodels.com/Retailers.htm

http://www.evergreenscalemodels.com/Shapes.htm
Item# 6-222 - Used to make Joining pieces
Item# 6-224 - Main Skid Tubing

Take the 224 tube make a jig to bend it the shape you want. Thread a flexible heat proof rod into it (like a thin steel cable) to avid it kinking when you bend it. Heat it gradually and bend it then hold it in position and let it cool (10-15 seconds), it will stay where you cool it...

Then use tiny pieces of the #222 and some CA to hold the skids and frame together.

Drill holes with a small drill to fit the heli and I used some small black screws that I had in a tub from my Trex450 spares.

Mount and fly , when you land harder than you should LOL the joining pieces typically break, you you use a tiny amoputn of CA you can just repair them if not you will need to drill them out and replace the joining pieces or make a few sets for spares.

The material comes in bags of 8 pieces and 5 pieces so you will have enough to experiment it iwll take a few tries to get it right.

Hope this helps good luck.

If you want to buy a set of commercial upgrade skids, see http://www.micro-flight.com/Walkera%204G3.htm

However double check when I saw these in the flesh they were not tubular (as shown on the site) they were laser cut carbon skid frames with tubular skids at the bottom.

For those of you after scale bodies for your 4G3...

I have these as well and love the rubberband holding method. I use it to hold 2 batteries at once, no problem.
