Default Hey, The Real Deal – E5

So finally finished my E5. Only have a few flights on it so far, but it’s still in one piece! I wasn’t so sure it would go that well since this is my first FBL heli, also my first Synergy, and Kontronik ESC.

So far though compared to my old Trex, the E5 is a work of quality and precision engineering. Very nice really.

I have it set up with 550 blades, KDE 600XL/1100, 12 tooth pinion, and 4500/7S batteries. The Kontronik is also very nice, headspeed changes are super easy compared to my old CC.

Currently have it running at 1500, 2300, and 2500

Went with the cheapy blades to start, figuring they wouldn’t last long, and they have come close to hitting the dirt a couple times so far!

Thanks Chris and Jeff!

I'm looking forward to putting some flights on this one.

Already have plans to stretch it to 600mm blades and also want to try the Kont. 650-103 motor.

That's one of the nicest things about the E5, so many ways to set it up and see what you like best.

Lance

Thanks again guys.

Rodney,

The cgy-750 turned out to be not to bad to set up. I watched the Nick Maxwell videos about 5 time though.

Still have a small tail wag during stops in AVCS mode that the gain setting doesn't seam to get rid of. Have to explore that one some more. its ok for now though, want to fly it around some to get comfortable with it.

Hey sseppala,

Those are antennas! I slid the Futaba receiver antennas into the tubes. The tubing was some leftover antenna tubing I had lying around.

Nice! It's definitely much easier to set up now than they were prior to the V1.3 firmware release.

Is your tail wag after doing rudder moves or elevator moves? I'm also guessing that you're using the Kontronic governor, not the CGY-750, yes?

Just rudder moves, while hovering too, and yea, using the Kont. gov. It doesn't do it in rate mode.

The tail linkage might be a little tight still, or I read somewhere there were some "expert menu" things that could be adjusted?

I would check all the linkages, first, and make sure that everything moves very smoothly with the control rod disconnected from the servo.

Hey, not at all, go for it. I'm sure I copied it from somebody myself.

Although it doesn't look like RJX is making the red blades anymore, and so far I haven't found any other red blade options.

Well I am definitely not the best person to ask on this subject as I am a "sport" flyer at best.

I looked at my 14sg logging though and if looks like the ESC keeps the head speed within 30 rpm during a relatively quick full collective move, so not sure it could be much better than that whatever the motor is.

That said I am not "amazed" at the acceleration from a stand still. I think my E5 came out a little heavier than most though especially with the 7s 4500 pack. That pack weighs more than a 5000 6s pack.

Right after I bought that pack HD listed a 4100 7s pack which I think would be better suited for the heli, I'm going to give that one a try.

Plus two of those would work great in an E7!

What pinion and head speed are you running? I'm running the Castle Vertigo 1175Kv motor in mine and thought it was a pig when I was running the 13T pinion. Some of the guys suggested I try the 12T and that made a big difference.
