Awesome, aren't they fun!

I got to maiden my little GAUI Tiger Shark Delta last weekend....it was too windy but I took it up anyway.

All I can say is HOLY SHIAT! I'm waiting for a no-wind day to play with that again.

Ok, that SR-71 with retracts from Banana Hobby just looked too cool. Whatever ducted fan kit I'd go with would have to either have no gear or retracts. Just something about a jet screaming past with wheels down that doesn't look right to me.

Same here. May have to consider the SR-71, I'm running out of radio slots!

The F-18 kit looked AWESOME, but at $500 it's a wee bit pricy. Too bad so many of these other jet kits insist on having wheels.........

Some pretty cool stuff at that site. At least they have some of the smaller foamies without landing gear Is there a reason so many kits have the gear? Guessing it's so folks don't tear up the bottom of the plane during landing if you don't have a nice grass field.

It's a blessing and a curse. The small gear won't work on grass, so you're stuck trying to find a couple hundred feet of paved runway! I've read, like for the Jepe F-16, Jepe thinks that the plane is too small to be stable enough in crosswind landings to effectively use gear. But then again, that thing cooks!

For me, gotta have landing gear and it has to be retractable. Good thing the high school parking lot is paved and rather large!!

The other option is to hand launch it like I've seen done with the Hobby Lobby F-16 on YouTube. The plane comes with fixed gear, but the owner never installed them.

A lot of the fixed gear setups on smaller EDF's is optional. You can bungee launch too. THere are some really neat setups for that!

Look up on post #13, you can see my bungee launch setup on my Gaui Tigershark Delta. I put the launcher together with scraps out of my garage and added 20 feet of surgical tubing.

I've been actually enjoying the hand launching of my A7 from hobby-lobby and my Gaui Tiger Shark Delta. I souped up the A7 with a 1400w jetscreamer engine...that thing rocks now! But it's still not as fast as the Gaui.

Seems like many of you like the Gaui. Is there a site out there somewhere that gives more info on the model like what it takes to put it together and what power system it uses? Was checking out some YouTube vids and that thing looks ridiculously fast. Gotta assume flight times are pretty short.

I just checked on the Medusa Research site. The 12mm afterburner motors just dropped to $29.99. http://www.medusaproducts.com/motors/012.htm 4000 & 5300Kv versions. These motors can be used in the 40-50mm fans, like the GWS ones or on BladeCP helis for the tail. You can pop a 40mm fan on a little homemade poster board foamie jet and have a blast in the backyard!!!!

I ended up going with the 3-bladed fan and yes, it's a screamer! Flight times aren't bad and I can use my trex 2200mah 25c batteries.

I ran mine on my heli batt,Align 35g esc/ high timing, Outrage 1800 4s/ 3800Kv out runner with 3 blades
and it was dipping around 180mph, I flowed the intakes and center divider

My buddy is building it, and all I have to say is that thing is sick! Listen to the pop when he plugs in the lipos. And when that thing is spooled up it sounds like a jet, I haven't heard anything that loud since I worked on Harriers. He's got more videos of some cool stuff. Check out this hand launched EDF...

Just got the e-flight BAe Hawk. It looks great out of the box. I will be adding some inlet ducting and covering up the cheaters on the bottom. I haven't yet decided if I will be adding a rudder. I am really looking forward to flying this one.

The EDF gurus on rcgroups are giving some great reports on these batteries. I am still flying my helis with Outrage and Kong packs, but it is definately worth it to go cheaper on the planks. However, the EDFs are just about as C hungry as the helis, so it is not good to go too cheap.

Squirrlybird, why would you cover the cheaters? Cheaters are there for a reason and it makes hand launching a lot easier! On my A7, I also gained top end speed with a cheater on the bottom.

I'm covering the cheaters because I am installing inlet ducting. Even with the cheaters, the e-flight hawk cannot be hand launched. Others who have installed inlet ducting have noticed an improvement in performance. On edf models, ducting is everything.
