In that case, you don't need an alarm of any kind. When you feel it backing off, fly for another 20 seconds.

Yeah I really like the option of a vibration instead of a buzzer... but it kinda worries me it will shake at the worst possible time.

Yeah i've tried to fly for an additional 20sec .... it always ends up way longer

Once again, set your alarm for slightly less than you want to see the voltage UNDER LOAD. It can bounce up and down all it wants above that point and you won't get an alarm. Toward the end of the flight, when it IS pulled down to the alarm level UNDER LOAD you get your alarm.

That might work for many ... doesn't work for many of us who push a machine. I've tried, it just doesn't work for hard flying.

Hmm, let me back up a second here. What is it exactly that we are trying to prevent in the first place? Over discharging the flight pack? Loosing motor drive power? What?

You may be right, but you will have to convince me why.

The reason you can 'feel' that it is time to land is because you lose performance. The reason you lose performance is because your voltage drops to a given voltage. If the alarm is set to sound off at that given voltage, then that should be the only time you hear your alarm.

Why is this assessment not correct? If you have tried it, then you must have some idea of why.

Fair enough, agree to disagree. Basically my argument boils down to the difference between the average voltage of the pack and the instantaneous voltage. The voltmeter only measures the instantaneous voltage of the pack, which is subject to the load fluctuations. The harder a machine is flown the larger these fluctuations, and they are impossible to predict.

BTW which Futaba do you have ? and does anyone else wish they would introduce more power features in the logic switching ?

For me the goal is getting the most flight time without damaging the battery pack.

A 14MZ, and impatiently waiting for the 14SG. I don't use logic switching so have no opinion about this.

I see. Now it makes more sense to me. BTW, the 14SG is on my final list of my next new radio. All I have now is a Walkera 2801 which I have outgrown although it still works fine. Also looking at the new Aurora 9x and either will be a step up. Hard to find a compelling reason to chose one over the other although I am leaning towards the Futaba now based on ................... looks.

The GPS sensors are in stock at Hobbico, so any Great Planes retailer can get one for you. FUTM0850 is the sku.

I guess it could give you altitude above sea level? Would be cool if you could enter in your local elevation so it could automatically subtract and give your actual altitude. Wouldn't need an altitude sensor.

This highly advanced Futaba sensor allows you to measure the position ( longitude & latitude), distance, speed, rate of climb/decent and altitude of you aircraft using GPS data and the inbuilt atmospheric pressure sensor for accurate readings.

This system is only compatible with Futaba transmitters that have FASSTest telemetry capability such as the 18MZ and 14SG. Simply plug the sensor into the S-Bus2 Slot in your FASSTest RX and away you go.

• Speed Range: 0 - 311mph (Approx)
• Altitude Range: -700m - +5,500m (Approx)
• Vario Meter: -336 - +336mph (Approx)

Got mine on back order.
