Default X50 goes FBL

I have decided to go FBL on my x50. I bought a Compass DFC head here on HF and put it on yesterday. I'm waiting on a AR7200BX that I also bought from here. I was thinking about trying a MSH Brain but decided against it cause I would have to have a receiver too.

Getting -13 to +13 pitch too.

I should be able to fly it next weekend.

I put the x50 FB head on a R50 and it made a big difference also.

Looks great, tr!

Looks just like my X50B (except the landing gear struts) before it's last mishap.

I wonder about your middle tail control rod guide though. There's a lot of space between it and the rear guide. If you have any bad tail behavior, make sure you check for flexing of the rod in that long span.

Good luck with the head, it's a nice mod.

Well hello stranger to the tt forms. Yes, I bought the canopy from you about 4 months ago. I like the green its easy to see for my old eyeballs. Didnt you have a ar7200bx on yours?
I'll move the guide back. Thanks for the advice.

Yes, I had the actual Microbeast unit. I'm flying electric now with a Spartan Vortex. I still have the X50 but can't afford to fly (crash) it.

Default Great Mod

Do you use a governor?
When I went fbl, I already had a AR7100R so I bought the BeastX.
Further more, I wanted to be able to set-up/tweek my system with out having
to use a laptop.

I got the BX today and put that puppy on in about hour. i got about -12/+12 on the pitch I could get 13 if I pushed it. It was to dark to do a test so I got to wait till tomorrow evening or play sick tomorrow and lay out of work... hmmmm.

Well I didn't take a sick day but I did go home for lunch.

Wow, what a difference. The x50 will hover for a good 8 seconds without any stick inputs and the tail is rock solid. I am really satisfied with the performance of the BX. Now I need to get to the flying field....

Hey there, I also use the Compass head on my X50. It flies perfectly.I could not be happier with the performance.

Did you change out the links on the end of the DFC arms to fit the raptor balls on the swash or change the balls on the swash to compass link size? Or something else? I couldn't tell from your pics but the compass links are slightly bigger than the raptor balls. They will snap on, but will have play and I did lose one in flight. I ended up changing the links to JR links (the grey ones for bigger link rods). This gave me the exact right size link for the ball and the right size for the threaded rod inside the DFC rod on the compass head.

Looks like a great machine btw!

-Adam

I think these are the ones I'm using:

Hey Adam, I purchased the head used from King Joe here on HF. He must have already changed the link rod ends because I did not have any issues. I also have a TracX 600 head (same as compass) on a Raptor 50 and I did have to use a different ball link ends on this one.

I took it out to the field Monday evening a flew it around a bit. It is definitely a big difference in the way it handles. I can bring it up off the ground and hover with very minimal stick inputs and it will stay in place for a bit before drifting.

I have only one problem, I've burned two gallons of fuel in about 1 and 1/2 days...

Thats awesome, burning 1.5 gals in a 50 is some respectable flying time! It does fly awesome with this head on it.

Have fun man!

I was able to get it to the field this weekend and I love it. It rained Sunday so I only had one day. I've got to find a cheaper means of fuel now, coolpower is almost $50 a gallon.

So far I haven't had any issues with one bolt. Yes it is the stock main shaft with one bolt.

I can confirm, I have a couple hundred flights on "one bolt" with no issues, even a number of crashes and still using the original bolt. You just have to make sure the clamping bolts are tight.

Outstanding!

That conversion looks great!

I have a Compass head standing by here to convert my old, reliable Raptor 50!

Ok, I fudged a little I paid $37.00 for 30% rotor rage a week ago. But still thats high. I guess we have to pay shipping and our supplies have to make a profit.
