upon further reseaerch it seems that many, many people run the yge as low as 55% throttle with the higher 35c and up packs to give even more head speed flexibility with absolutely no ill effects except slight loss of flight time and just slightly warmer battery, motor and esc temps. HMM! I may have to think about buying a tach and switching from CC ICE to YGE and also buy a miniature seperate data logger! Maybe!

Haha, nice I can only support that. Data logging is the only thing I miss, especially on a 450 size where you don't have much space to put it. The partial load ability is great, ESC isn't any hotter when running low throttle % than normal.

Not to mention the YGE has a governor that doesn't... umm.... "respirate inwardly".

I dont know Chris, I have the set rpm gov on my ice lite 50 in my custom stretched 450 working flawless. And the ice 100 in my 550 is dialed in just about perfect. Since I have gone from mod 7 to mod 8 main gear on the 550 I will be able to up the gov gain a bit and that should nail it right on the money! It did however take some fiddling to get them just right

Yeah Scott, with enough fiddling you can get the Castle governors to work pretty well, but never as good as Kontronik or YGE. And what befuddles me is why they can't make it work without futzing. With the Kontronik or YGE you basically tell it "You are in a helicopter" and you're done. It just works! Headspeed is totally locked in, no overspeeding, no stripped gears or tail wag. It just works. I guess that's why they cost 2x or 3x as much.

Like I said in the other thread over in the big Protos forum, I do like my Castle ESCs (got about six of them) but in the world of governors, they are not top of the heap by any means.

Since I dont demolish my helis anymore I will go with yge on my next heli !! HA!
It will also give a good excuse to buy an optical tach!

Always good to have an excuse for new tools or toys.

Ok, so I guess the leading question is that if I want to run a stretch boom/350 blades, and 4s, and I fly moderately aggressive 3D, but like the feel of a 'larger' machine with the big blades, what kind of headspeed would I be after for the Mini P?

Also, the kit comes with a 16 T pinion...and I like the idea of a larger pinion due to larger surface contact with the belt, would I get what I'm after with the 2010kv motor? looking to minimize buying extra pinions if I can help it.

I'm running a CC ICE 50 and V-Bar

Well after all the discussion I will try the 2010kv 4s motor first as I have it packaged with my heli. I do have both 3s and 4s packs to try and the 14, 16 and 17 tooth pinion so will do some testing when I get it around head speeds.

One note I don't think we covered here is if you run the 3s motor on 3s packs with the stock pinion and replace it with the 4s motor on 4s packs with the stock pinion you will get around the same headspeed. Now this is a good setup for 3d with 325mm blades, if you go to the 350mm blades you may want to wind it back a bit with the extra blade area. As you get the 16 tooth with the kit, I would try that for a start and use the ESC to get the headspeed you want, but if you have to wind it back too far then get a 15 tooth.

thanks for the input...I guess I'll start looking for a 2010 kV motor.

I'm sitting here building the kit right now...pretty lousy instructions . Wish they would have another page with some 3 views of some of the washers...very hard to decipher.

My kit turned up today so I will start the build over the weekend. I am expecting it to be very similar to my big Protos so I don't expect many problems with it.

There are quite a few flying around now so if you are not sure of anything, ask a question here and I am sure you will get some help.
