Default 12Z calibration question or 12FG?

hi gang,
i'm new here and am a plane flyer (future heli guy tho), and i am so glad i found this site. you guys literally rock in the knowledge department and i have learned a great deal in just the first hour being here.

i am also a returning pilot from a 15 year layoff, and it's the 2.4gig technology that has brought me back...........no fear of a shootdown makes this sport even more enjoyable.
the radio i have now is the 6EX 2.4 and well you know, it's time to move on. the 6EX will be a slave from here on out.

now here i am ready for the new box, and the 12FG is decided as a must have, i am now seeing that the 12Z is probably the better way to go.
questions i have about the 12Z,
1. is timer alarm beep volume adjustable?
2. is the LCD screen and menus better than the 12FG?
3. is there a calibration CD included with the 12Z?

thx
mike

No.

12Z has a bigger and more easy to read LCD, it has morn command buttons, so the menus are more easy to go
3. is there a calibration CD included with the 12Z?
No, none for 12Z and 12FG.

Also, 12Z has spline curve & VTR curve settings.....

There is a way to access the service menu of the 12Z if needed to calibrate the sticks. Or perform other functions. You can find out to to do it here in the forum. As for the 12FG, no one has found a way to access the service menu.

If you want to save about half the cost of a 12FG or 12Z. I would look at the 10C that should be released in a couple of weeks. Nice features in a tranny for about $500.

thx for the replies. i decided on the 12Z as i figured since i'm spending this much already on the 12FG, i might as well go for the 12Z and get all the goodies.

David,
i have been on the waiting list for the 10C ever since it was posted on Towers site, and after the 3rd delay, and the fact that i regeared all my birds with 608FS's, i need a radio now.
i think the 10C is gonna be a great seller, but Futaba's delays in this case net them a better sale on my part.

actually there are a few added features,

sticks,
http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_69...tm.htm#6943012

and call me anal, but the volume feature on the 12Z allows me to kick up the countdown timer. being in the millwork industry all these years (i'm 52) has taken a toll on the hearing albiet i still have good hearing, but you know.

next is the li-ion battery....after using digital cameras, i like them.
there's a few other items in the menus and a couple features i like as well, (CF cards).
also there is more to the 12Z's screen than it's size.........the return keys make things a bit easier.

to be honest, i was all set to get the FG as i think it's an excellent Tx, but after adding the trainer cord, and yes i wanted a case, the total came up to 1,300.00.
the 12Z i got for 1,425.00............so i went for it.
just got the UPS guy signed off so i'm looking at it now.
