Talking Roban Airwolf 800 build

That is sweet to get into a magazine. I keep tearing mine down and changing things, so I am slow going right now. Trying to take a wrecked pair of blades and cobble up a new set of tail rotor blades, slightly wider then what I could find on-line. Getting the fuse wired up for nav. lights and such. Going to install one of the satellites in the tail fin. Will start working on the weapons soon. Hope to be in the air soon. Gary

Gary

These were some of the widest tail blades I could find.

http://www.ercmarket.com/mah-blades-130mm-mah130.html - 36mm wide chord

and these are the blades I got for my EC-145 (4x 820mm HeliTec wide chord, so I wanted some extra length to counter the multiblade head)

http://www.ercmarket.com/mah-blades-150mm-mah150xt.html - 41mm wide chord

The balance on the 150mm were not wonderful, but not terrible either.

Default Roban Airwolf 800 build

Been so long I forgot how to post Took time away because life kept getting in the way. Started back on it with some preventive maintenance. Did a preflight inspection, armed the tail rotor esc, and the magic smoke pour out like a genie Got to check receipts for the warranty. Make the repairs and try again. Gary

Damn....Sorry to hear that. Glad your back as your post has been a big help in my Roban Bell 222 build. So far the retracts and lights are working well on 2s. Servos, ESC, and motor should be installed this week. Look forward to hearing more on the build.

Mastrg, after breezing though this multi-year build thread and seeing everything you put into it, would you recommend a different Airwolf kit brand? I'm in the market but don't have your stamina...

Default Roban Airwolf 800 build

Daddyodel, sorry about the late reply. Been awhile since I have been on. Had a run in with a router, pretty much erased my finger tips. Almost a year has passed, still no real feeling in the fingers. In answer to your question, the Roban airwolf is fairly straight forward build. I just can't seem to keep anything in stock form to save my life. It is nice bit of kit, save that it is black and white looked like a orca to me , so I repainted it metallic gray over white. Then flood gates opened, still modding things. Latest change was power coat the main rotor and tail rotor cast aluminum. I wish this no fly zone would shrink so I have some fun

Hi!

I just bought a Roban 800 Airwolf.
This is my first project scale heli.
I have this configuration:

1) Align 750MX 530KV
2)Avian smart ESC 120A
3)Spektrum FC 6250HX
4) 2x 6s 5000 battery

With all this items, is it mandatory installing a external BEC?????
I have only 1 free channel on the FC and I need to power also retracts and lights.
I just bought a serial expander with y-lead to ESC so now I have other 4 free channels (plus 1 on FC).

Other important question about servos:

Which cyclic and tail should I choose?
High Voltage at 8.4? Without BEC?
High Torque at 7.4?

Please i'm really confused
