Default Dual Rates for 3d

I am about ready to flip my heli over for the first time, I normally like to fly with my dual rates at 75%. Do I need to set them to 100% to get enough throw to get it over, or am I ok where I am at? If I am ok, would it make it easier to set it to 100%?

What heli?

On flips on small birds i like it DR at max. If they flip slow they drop without end.

On a 700 or 800 you can slowly turn around the bird as long as you do not mess up pitch.

From your profile Foqr: (Trex 450 v2, Trex 500, Gaui x2) and recent posts on a 550 DFC build, I would assume the x2.

Do you have a sim? If so, what heli do fly in the sim and what DR do you use on flips there? I STRONGLY advise you practice aerobatics in a sim before trying for real (on any size heli).

If you do not have a sim, how are your loops and rolls? You will not want to try flip and hold on a heli without a sim and not doing either of these. A back flip is a mangled inside loop, a front flip is a mangled outside loop, rolls are rolls.

Don't mistake out intentions, we want to get get flips and want to help, we'd just prefer not to advise in such a way as might make you crash unnecessarily. (crashing usually less fun that flying ).

All that said, I am of the opinion that for aerobatics on both small and large heli you want DR set to at least 100. I know some use more, but you need to ensure there is no servo binding at max cyclic throws and collective.

I am of the opinion, when a pilot is up to the skill level of attempting aerobatics, the governing factor should be your ability to use the controls within their endpoints, not limiting the available control endpoints. Only for beginner pilots and precision flying should the endpoints for control be lowered.
