Over speeding the head
So I see moves where people will do a rainbow towards their self going into inverted nose in/up. Over speed the head and then pop it really hard. What's the deal? I can do rainbows, but my head doesn't over speed like I have seen others. Best I can guess it that it's kind of like the flare at the end of an auto(which I can't do those all that great either) where the head speeds up before the landing. I have done autos in the past, but tend to slam it into the ground at the end, not hard enough to break anything but hard enough for me to realize that it was too hard. So someone tell me, what's going on? When I do rainbows I more or least pump/jab the collective at the stops to get the heli to stop and then apply collective and a little cyclic to get it arcing over in the opposite direction. What am I missing?

i think they are just holding onto the power on for a little longer than is comfortable, so they are actively pushing down towards the ground in the second half (so the rotor speeds up as gravity is helping it). then they apply collective suddenly and it gives a sudden stop. ive noticed this effect on phoenix. its slightly different from doing normal rainbows, in which you tend to let off on the throttle past the vertical, just using gravity alone to gently complete the second half. you need to just fly harder lol

It is not that hard. You just change the pitch a bit later, instead of halfway through the rainbow. This will increase the headspeed a bit, and then you just have to punch the collective to stop the helicopter.
Just make sure your helicopter is setup right, and with a bit of practice, everybody can do it.

Heheh...yes, I like that sound too. Want another easy one?
Fly backwards to yourself, and flip it forward with lots of pitch. The blades will bark hard It is pretty easy to do with great effect Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

Oh - that just painted image in my head:
upright inverted, full speed towards big, high coarse wall and in last moment backflip in such way that you do 270º rotation ending nose down skids on the wall... And all done without undue altitude gain (or loss), planting heli firmly on the wall nose down... Not only blade sound but visual image too! |
