Default 7HV pre-purchase questions??

I'm thinking im going to pick up a 7HV at the toledo show this weekend so i've been trying to decide what electronics to go with.my question is what is the advantage of using HV servos vs. normal servos. i was looking at using the savox SC1258TG for cyclic and the Savox SH-1290MG on the tail but ther not HV. would these be good? any insight would be appreciated!

There's nothing wrong with running your electronics on 6V. You will get a bit better torque at higher voltages, but the difference is not significant IMO. The main attraction to HV is using a lipo without a regulator. If you're planning to run a BEC, the line is muddier.

Well stated, Alan!

I have the same cyclic servos on my 7Hv and they work just fine. I have never even considered upgrading them even when I had a set of Torqs that weren't being used. I had that tail servo on mine, but i did end up upgrading it. I went with the Futaba Bls251 and I am much happier with it. I would suggest going that route instead. You will be more happy in the long run.

Futaba BLS 452/251 combo here.
Run on Kosmik default BEC(5.6V) plenty strong and fast on a 700 and low current draw keeps BEC's happy.

If you run your cyclics at 6v through a bec do you need to run a stepdown for the tail? Or is the 251 happy at 6?

251 although rated as a 4.8V servo is fine @6V on a BEC.
A 4cell 4.8V battery hot of charge is about 6V. If you were to run it from a 6cell 6V Rx pack that would be ~7V hot off charge and could prematurely wear down servo.

Using a BEC you have a constant voltage of 6V if that's where you set it, no problems.

Although I agree with the LiFe pack comment, not sure if it's best for a BLS251 since they are over 7 volts when freshly charged. Not saying you're wrong, but I believe there is added risk for that servo. An uneducated opinion mostly, but I fried the potentiometer on a servo in a nitro bird a few years ago, and the only explanation I could come up with was the 7.2V starting voltage. Maybe that wasn't the cause, but it haunts me a bit.
