Default What pinion are you useing

Hi all
I got a trex600esp flying with a 12S batt, CC 80HV esc and scorpion 630kv motor.
At the moment I am useing the 14T pinion at gov mode. (I'm not doing any 3D for now).
rpm's are: 1900 2000 2100
I find it hard to achieve the 2100rpm. the esc is set to the defult 3.7v per cell.
Would you guys recomend changeing the pinion to the 15T ?
Thank you in advance and a happy weekend to you all,

I'm running 12S 3000mAh, ICE2 80HV and a Scorpion 4025-550 with a 17T. I fly governed at 2200rpm. My flight timer is set at 6:00 and the packs come down at 3.8v-3.85v of mild 3D.

Based on that, I'm guessing you'll need a 16T. Don't worry too much about what the software says about "too fast for governing" or something like that....it's way over conservative IMO.

The best way to do it s to go to the Castle software set the desired head speeds in the governor in the set RPM mode. then change the pinion spec for the governor to show a 'healthy' headroom for those RPM's. In my case (6S, 1100KV, 170T main) it was 17T or a 1:10 ratio. My guess 16T is your optimum, this will give you scope to a higher headspeed in the future as well.

i have your setup..and i run a 17t pinion with 2200 rpm governed...too much power.. stripped the main gear. you may also have to upgrade to the kde universal hub an use the trex 700 straight mod 1 gear 117t with a 12t pinion

OP's setup would struggle to govern at 2000rpm, never mind 2100rpm.

RPM = 630kV x 44.4V x 0.9 x 14T / 170T = 2073rpm at 100% towards the end of a flight, so the max governed speed should be;

2073 x 0.95 = 1969rpm

With a 15T pinion this would go to;

100% speed = 2220rpm
Governed max = 2110rpm

So, yes, 15T would do the speeds you want, but if you are not doing 3D, do you really need a high headspeed ? All it does is shorten the flights unnecessarily.

If say at 100% throttle you are at 2200-2300RPM then your heli is set right in term of drive and power. You should then be able to govern at around 2050-2150. For non 3D flying anything between 1800-2000 RPM (where you feel the craft is comfortable and power consumption is good) will be a good starting point.

+1

Basically go as low as you can do the flying that you want to. The lower you go, the longer the flight time.

Then you can increase the speed as your flying improve and you want more performance.

You could set Normal at, say, 1800, ST1 at 1900, and ST2 at 2000. Then if the wind increases, or you want to try something new, just increase the speed by flicking the switch.
