Is it possible for someone to make a finetuning video for the brain/ikon like the above one? (Hopefully the video shows good with this tags) |

I have actually recorded 3 different "advanced tuning" videos for the iKON. The trouble has been the up and coming changes that would have just made it obsolete.
I know I haven't been as active as I was this time last year, but life crept up on me a bit. I am ramping back up now and we have some new blood on the beta team helping drive production. I know there are two of us planning new instructional videos and advanced videos to cover the upcoming changes. We will likely work together to come up with one video or possibly series of videos to put a fresh look on the process. I am sure you guys are getting tired of hearing it, but this update coming addresses a lot of flight characteristic concerns and adds a few new tuning options. It will be worth the wait!

What would also be helpful is to demonstrate what I'll call "bad behaviors." In the Freddie video, for example, he walks through the tuning process discussing what order to do things in (and why). At each step, he describes what bad behaviors to look for in flight (head wobbling, drifting, tail wagging, etc), but then when he flies everything is working perfectly and no further adjustments are needed!
What would be more helpful is to demonstrate these bad behaviors in flight so we could see what "bad" looks like, land and adjust, and then fly again to verify the change worked. What happens with settings that are too low as well as too high are needed. Things that are order dependent should also be made very clear. Not trying to be overly critical here; just making a suggestion based on an observation (and experience) from a relatively new heli pilot. I strongly suspect this tuning process does not need to be so mysterious. I also strongly suspect that there are a lot of folks flying helis that could be flying a lot better if they were tuned better (I'm pretty sure I am one of those pilots).

I also fully understand what your asking and why. It would be awesome to give examples of what bad looks like compared to good and this can be done to an extent but there are a ton of factors that come in to play when tuning motors and governors to work together smoothly. I am working on some governor how to videos right now and I went ino this like everything I do, thats head first at full speed and while some of the negative tendancies that I had hoped to simulate and document on recording have turned out very well and will help some folks a good bit unfortunately I have also learned that there is a real issue with what a person see's, hears, and feels in real life compared to how it turns out once its on a recording and rewatching it on a computer or tablet or whatnot. Unfortunatly the camera will not accurately show a head shudder or twitching and the microphones on our GoPros or smart phones willnot pickup some of the sounds and such that is needed for tuning say the governor to a nitro. And then trying to explain or show the difference between a head shudder from a head gain being to high compared to say a similar head shudder due to the motor causing bad resonating vibes due to just being simply way out of tune. These types of issues are tough to show and fully understand via a video that a system that has both nitro and electric gov built in on top of the regular flybarless tuning issues. Thats just an example of one that Ive already faced trying to help explain and show the difference. I'm sure the others doing the videos to will be doing there best to explain as good as they possibly can as well with what they have to work with and I'm certain we will all be doing as best we can with what we know and have to work with. Some things though unfortunately you just kind of pickup and or learn as time goes by with experience or from others first hand at funflies or group events.

Thanks. I'm still hopeful that some combination of videos and text can unlock some of the mystery of tuning governors and FBL's. Maybe to do it right will require some education on control loops, etc. but my impression of most HFer's is that digging into some pretty technical material is not an issue. I'm on my own, so I personally would pay for a good guide on this.
I see you're south of DFW. Maybe I'll see you at the Helifest at Apache Pass on 4/23-25.

My cyclic pitch on my 380 is measuring 10deg forward elevator stick but 12deg backwards stick any ideas.
My pitch is all fine on 12 deg blades front and at 90deg to front position.

Both swash links 42.54mm one other 42.44mm nothing in it.
Is your heli level and the main shaft at perfect vertical?......where is this one going? I have levelled heli with bubble and set iKon level in set up. update: must servo arms be exactly at 90deg at zero stick as mine are just a whisker postive of 90deg...?
