Finally compleated my DUNE
I have made the Dune my go to Helix since first purchasing it, I don’t fly my Srimok as its too pretty to crash again so I decided that the Dune would get the best that money could buy and that I could justify so that I could fly the crap out of it!
To that end I went for the following: *rail mains and tail *Jeti Mezon 130 ESC, active freewheel, rpm out, full telemetry, remote programming, good governor, auto rotation bailout, fits in the frame, all the features of a kontronic HJ or Kosmic and still cheaper! *Jeti RX, telemetry TX on heli *Jeti Box, Telemetry RX and remote program *Pyro 700-52l, hand wound for about 540kv and max efficiency/cooling *Gryphon Quasar Bec, for added (unneeded) safety and to power the electrics separately from the motor *Futaba BLS 256hv tail *Futaba BLS 157hv cyclics *SK-720 BE and my latest addition is the SK-GPS. To borrow from a fellow HF member, if there is better I want it!

Swapped to 116mm Rails on the 800, which are vibe free up to 1,900rpm and hold strongly with the metal crown. I'm only using 11° pitch, though that's plenty with such a light machine.
The speed machine had a head rebuild, changes to how the Kosmik connectors are soldered and swapped to Radix 710mm FAI blades. Just a steady 12s flight at 2,300rpm and 15° pitch. The heavy FAI blades really add a lot of stability and there's no bogging with the Xera motor. I'm tempted to swap to the metal crown before I go 2,500rpm+ with 14s. Also need to start looking at removing the landing gear and other aero advantages.

Man! that thing must be a rocket with 710mm blades at 2300 rpm!
As I prob mentioned before, I took my Dune to Spain last month because it fit very easily in my golf hard case and I had spares for it, plus the LiPos were lighter etc. And even at what is generally quite a low headspeed for a 600 heli, it does remarkably well. I really need to get someone to tacho it but my guess is somewhere between 1400 and 1500 with hovering mode lower than that. Looking back though I would probably have benefitted by upping the headspeed and running the Rail 606s because it was very windy over there. (Also I think I am a bit spoiled by 700 size helis and my flying wasn't up to my usual standard for whatever reason).

Yep, it's quick, though it doesn't make a fuss. Those 710 FAI blades are just a few grams heavier than the 800 blades, so they add a lot of stability. In comparison the TDR sounds really fast, but with the Dune you just hear the air being mashed. It's at the end of a run that you see how fast it is, it's in the clouds. I've been practising reversals and sweeping turns with the TDR, but just haven't got the confidence to do them with the Dune.
I'd love to take a heli on holiday, though I'm not sure how impressed my family would be! There's been so many times in amazing warm countries where you spy the perfect flying spot.

I finally got to put a few tanks through my new Srimok! It's my first nitro, so there's been lots of learning to date and lots more needed for engine tuning. There's a few things I need to tweak, but I was pleasantly surprised how well it performed... can't wait to get out to make more fog

I never thought nitro was for me, though I think it's going to be a great addition. I've added the anti-vibe FBL mount, as I was getting the odd dive to the left and the plastic front-end wasn't quite square to the main shaft, so it wasn't piro'ing flat. I've got some 3700 RX packs coming, so the CoG will be better.
A quick tank full before it got dark tonight and it's flying loads better and I think I've go the motor running about right. The built-in gov on the AR7200BX is working really well, I've not even tried tweaking it yet. Last thing I need is the Gryphon Auto Booster, so I don't have to take the canopy off, perfect for winter!

I love that cano, Oat really does a great job. I've got a spare FB head that I'll have to try some time!

For me the two biggest pluses about FBL are that you can run low headspeeds if you want and there is less drift in flight and hence less correction needed to hold a position or track through a move etc. but I don't mind the little corrections really. A good FB setup can be super smooth and fly really nice, you get the pure feel of the heli mechanically without any electronics inbetween.

Loving the Faifa
At the risk of having too many posts on here, I have to just say, I flew the Faifa today after having not flown it in a few months. Previously I had a little slop at the main grips due to slightly worn links so I replaced those last night and now it is just spot-on, it feels totally connected. It's really as close to perfect as anything I have ever flown, just an absolute joy.

I got a few flights with my Dune on the weekend. It was quite windy but the weather has been so bad lately i had to make the most of it while it was at least flyable.
No great skills on display but in my defense I'm a late starter on this heli thing (old school fixed wing flyer) and have only a couple of years under my belt. My only goal is taking them all home in one piece! Here it is:

What headspeed are you running? Sounds kinda low.

Today (Saturday) I passed the BMFA 'B' test with my Faifa!

That's great! Did you bother with the 'A' cert?

Thanks! I did the A cert about 4 years ago and it was mainly so I could fly at Epsom Downs. The other clubs didn't have any requirements like that. I wasn't really that bothered about doing the B but it just happened that some examiners were coming down to our club at BoxHill so I figured I'd give it a go.
Since I had the Faifa really nicely dailed-in it was the logical choice.

I decided to switch from using EC5's to the Supra X Pro S6 connectors. So the first heli I have switched is my Faifa 800 as the constant amp draw can be quite high when pushed hard. They're really nice to solder and give a good confident click. I'm series connecting pack to pack, which has its dangers, but removes a lot of unnecessary connections... just got to remember orange-to-orange before anything else!!

I saw the video of those connectors. Where do you get them from?
I could only find the http://www.rcproplus.com/webe/html/p...2.aspx?kind=32 site and it seems incomplete.

Yep, I got mine from Ben! I'm really impressed with how easy they are to solder, the firm click you get when connecting them and the casing nicely supports the cable where it bends.
So, I'm now in the process of swapping all my packs for 700 and upwards size. Make sure you get the rcproplus soldering stand, which makes it a quicker process. I managed to solder the first two packs with the wrong male and female connectors, so I can vouch for the fact that they're re-usable
